Help... think i might have killed my iphone...

Here is the scoop.... I had an carrier unlocked, jailbroken Firmware 4.1, 06.15.00 baseband....I pluged it into itunes and updated to 5.1. i didnt want the lock anymore or jail broken. I just bought a new mac computer and the phone needed to be updated to 5.1 to do all the cool stuff it will do with a imac..... The itunes update went good... until it finished and everything rebooted. It started the setup process on the iphone with the 5.1 firmware... but now it wont accept ANY sim card. Itunes says there is no sim card in the iphone and the iphone says it can not activate the phone because the server is down... I dont know what to do now.... i thought restoring through itunes reset everything.....

I downloaded tinyunbrella and managed to save 2 SHSH's from the phone. One for firmware 4.1 and one for 5.1. The phone's baseband is STILL 06.15.00.

Im messin with the phone on a mac. I have redsn0w, pwnagetools, tiny umbrella...


Now im lost..... any ideas.

since 06.15.00 is not an iPhone baseband (it was on the iPad1 which has the same chip, thus it was able to work on an iPhone 3G/3GS), it requires the phone to be both jailbroken and unlocked.

note that it is not possible to downgrade the baseband.


you've really got two options:

a) update to 5.1, jailbreak with the latest version of redsn0w. and then run ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock again. [the jailbreak is tethered, meaning whenever the phone needs to be rebooted, you must connected it to your conputer and run redsn0w to boot it up]

b) get an iPhone 4 or 4S

Right now, it has 5.1 on it... i cant do anything with the handset until it activates. Can i jailbreak 5.1 without having the handset activated and able to get to the home Screen? Also, can this be done on a mac?

yes, redsn0w will "hacktivate" the phone allowing you to get in without having to activate in itunes

Ok here's what i have done so far. I managed to get the phone reloaded to 4.1 and activated through pwnagetool. It works just like an iphone should... except there is no service. on any simcard. I could not get red sn0w to do anything with it when it was on 5.1 so i downloaded 4.1.... which was what was on it when i got it unlocked and jailbroken. I updated cydia when i got 4.1 back on it and everything seems to work like it should. All my apps are tunes are resynced.

Now theres just no phone.... Its just an fancy ipod. I have tried installing untrasn0w after everything was running and still no phone. I took the iphone from the mac and put it on the pc and reran redsn0w on it. i tried to boot tethered but during the process it gets stuck at the " Waiting for Iphone 3gs ". For some reason... redsn0w wont work on my mac.... only my pc.

Should have just sent the damn thing to one of those guys that hang out in the mall unlocking phones and such..... All i wanted was to have my phone restored, the jailbreak and unlock removed and the phone at 5.1 so it would work better with the imac. The person who did it for me lives on the other side of Canada out in BC....

Any more ideas???

go to whatever carrier you're with a get a new phone .. or go to an Apple Store and buy a factory unlocked phone and go to whatever carrier you choose

UPDATE: Applecare is sending me a new handset. They think there seemed to be a glitch when i updated to 5.1 The handset is still under warranty. Did not say anything about it being jailbroken. Also i got 5.1 reloaded and it is now stuck at the activate iphone section of the ios5.1 setup screen, Which is exactly what i told them the problem was.
