Hi everyone, I currently have a dish 500 installed with two lnbs for 110 and 119. To get both satellites at the same time, the dish must be skewed. My question is, if I replace the 119 lnb with the circular lnb used for 118.8/119, will I automatically hit 118.8 and 119 without sacrificing 110?

Thanks.

Yes it wont mess with 110.....IF you don't mess up the dish alignment.

What you can do is to get a fine black sharpy and make some reference marks, this will make sure your still aligned with the satellites.

How ever one problem, the dish 500 is not big enough for good reception on 118, 118 takes a bigger dish as it is a weaker satellite then the 119/110 satellites.

You can go to satbeams.com and look up 118 (Anik F3) then select the little globe next to the satellite listing, this will give you a footprint for 118 (use the Anik F3 Ku beam) then zoom in on your location, once you find it, click on it, this will give you an idea on the dish size for your location.

I know for sure that I can get decent signal on 118.8/119 with a regular 18" dish from where I'm located. Does this imply that I can also get 118.8/119 and 110 with a dish 500 or would the dish500 not be big enough to get 118.8/119 & 110 all 3 sats at the same time?

An 18 inch dish, are you sure, for 118.8?

Dish it self uses a Dish 500 plus for 110, 118.8 and 119, its a 23 x 31 inch modified elliptical dish.
Info on a Dish 500+

And after checking I find that at least a 22 inch dish is needed for your area to get a good signal on 118.8 (not 119), go to the link below and check for your self.

I re-measured my regular dish, it's actually 22" inches which is the minimum size dish to get 118.8 in my area. Now, let's put aside this regular dish that I was using for 118.8/119. Does this imply that if I use a dish 500, that I can also get 118.8/119 (with the proper lnb) together with 110, or would the dish500 not be big enough to get reception on 118.8/119 & 110 simultaneously?

Thanks.

I moved this from Dish Receiver discussion to Dish discussion. :)

You will find exceptions to the recommended dish sizes as they tend to go to the larger end and signals can vary in areas widely. The size stated is considering that you are pointing at a single satellite with the dish, not multiple satellites. But you will never go wrong by going bigger. :)

How can I determine the minimum size dish needed to point to multiple satellites at the same time? For example, I want to point to 118.8/119 & 110. I know for a fact that my regular size 22 inch dish (which is smaller than my dish 500) is capable of getting 118.8/119. How can I know if my dish 500 is big enough to get 118.8/119 & 110?

Thanks.

Not to tell anyone they are wrong about a 30'' dish or larger being the recommended size. Here in southeast MN i am able to pull in 110,118.7,119 just fine with a dish 500 a few tps are a bit weak but all is watchable. If you plan to use the 118/119 combo lnb with the 500 you will have to modify the lnb yoke for the square tube type lnb to fit correctly mainly just trimming the plastic yoke to accept that lnb along with your 110 lnb. Not sure of your location but its worth a try as i was told it was impossible as well. Its a hobby have fun with it. cheers
