I am somewhat of a techie person so I tinker alot. I was looking into tablets and such(I don't like Apple products) with price being a big factor, also the not knowing how good it will be or if I will like it. So my inner geek started searching the net for ideas when I found a android forum. With the info there I easily made up my mind to take my NC e-reader and make it a full Android tablet. One other thing is I dont like things to be permanent. I proceeded to install a CM7 which is a custom version of the Android Gingerbread 2.3 on a removable/Dual bootable micro sd card. It has a vast amount of customize-ability, it is slower than the top o the line tablets due to the single core processor but I have mine overclock @ 1.1Ghz. After running this for several months now I feel it was the best choice for a budget tablet.

That sounds interesting - so you're actually booting from sd ? You can run all of androids apps ?, how much does a NC go for ?

Yes I am running android OS from micro SD card. Again yes full android market and google apps. B&N now sells the NC e-reader for $199 since they released their tablet. You could probably find one cheaper.

That is cool. I just went out and bought a tablet a couple of weeks ago. Before I bought it, I was looking at the Nook and the Kindle Fire. I ended up going with a 16gb Archos Internet Tablet. The Archos doesn't have the pinch-to-zoom, but I personally think that is overrated. Mine does have a card slot, USB port, and a HDMI port. Sometimes I hook a 4 port USB hub up to it so I can plug a keyboard, mouse, and a couple of flash drives, then I hook it up to my 48" tv. I haven't tried to hook up my backup hard drive it to yet. I have a feeling that I will have to reformat it back to a fat32 in order to get it to work.

It is a fun little toy. I haven't tried to install any other OS yet, but in the future I may try.

Just to be clear this is for a Nook Color e-reader not the Nook tablet. Its more work but to do but the Nook tablet "android" os is pretty locked down not easily modified and certain android features are blocked.
