guys question, was wondering if this is possible. rather than run new coaxial cable lines thru the house I used a diplexer for my fta unit to have sat/cable. but now i want to add another fta unit upstairs, can i use a diplexer but have it set up in front of the cable splitters, so that the signal can be split to any room in the house? I have three tv's for example, so if I set up diplexer downstairs where all splitters and connections are made, then add (1) diplexer upstairs would the sat signal pass thru all the tv cable splitters and work upstairs as well as my current setup in living room? right now I have two diplexers but bypassing all cable splitters and going to living room upstairs then going into second diplexer via cable/sat. making a total of 3 diplexers.

I never thought of that so I went looking and found this page:

basically for satellite you will always need a new cable from the switch/ lnb to the fta box.

The satellite signal will not go through the CATV splitter(s), it will cause all sorts of problems for the FTA receivers doing it that way.

It's best to use a Diseqc switch that has a "Terrestrial" antenna or CATV input, (5 x 4 switch, 4 satellite inputs, 1 TV antenna/CATV input) then you can use the "Diplexers" at each receiver/TV set to extract the TV signal from the coax coming from the switch to the FTA receiver and send it to the TV set.

That may work out, but the big problem that they don't cover is the additional signal loss with the addition of the splitters, it is better to run the TV signal into a switch with the TV antenna/CATV input and then use the diplexer(s) at the receiver(s) and TV set(s), then just run the TV output of the diplexer directly to the TV's antenna input, less mucking around that way, and far less signal loss.

so my setup is a dish 500, with fatboy Dual lnb, used for 119/110, can someone recommend a switch mentioned above that would work? I am using local cable company for tv, not OTA.

A Diseqc switch with a TV antenna input will also work for a Cable TV supplied signal.

One thing though, the Cable company may detect the switch as an unauthorized connection, it may put a different load on their system, remember they own the coax all the way down to your TV set or cable box, any additional connections not done by them, or other equipment installed on their line could register as a trouble alarm on the engineering console at the cable company.

This is why it's best to run the FTA satellite system on it's own coax.

But if you still want to try, then look for a switch like this one.

is there one that does not require power adapter? And would the cable company potentially be alarmed by something like this?
