After scoring twice in the first five minutes of the game, Canada cruised to an 8-1 win over Finland in the
opening game of the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton.
Mark Stone scored 2:14 into the game to give Canada the lead, burying a one-timer from the slot. Brendan Gallagher made it 2-0 before the game was five minutes old.
Alexander Ruuttu scored early in the secnod period to cut the Canadian lead to one goal, but Stone's second of the game restored Canada's two-goal advantage.
Jonathan Huberdeau and Dougie Hamilton scored on the powerplay later in the second to make it 5-1 Canada. Brett Connolly scored early in the third to make it 6-1.
Stone completed his hat-trick by burying a rebound that made it 7-1 before Ryan Strome buried a long snapper to give Canada a seven goal lead.
Mark Visentin got the start in goal for Canada. The Finns countered with Chris Gibson, who plays for Chicoutimi in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
