Hi guys,

I have Moteck SG2100 on 30" antenna for 3-4 years now. I never did any maintenance on it and it was working OK until few days ago when I notice it's acting sluggish. Today motor stopped working completely and I can't move antenna from receiver but I have good LNB signal on one satellite where antenna is stuck. I went on the roof and green light is there. When I tried to move antenna using buttons it barely moved. I had to help by pushing the dish.

Looks like gears should be lubricated. Winter started here and temperatures are below freezing point for the first time. I guess this is why motor decided to take a brake now. Had anyone lubricated motor before? Should I use white grease?

Any help is appretiated,
Klikerko

Those SG2100 motors use plastic/nylon gears that are prone to wearing out and eventually breaking after a couple years... They're not really user serviceable, I don't think replacement gearboxes are available for the SG2100 and it's clones. It wouldn't hurt to open it up and check the condition of the gears, if it's indeed time for a new motor look into a STAB or Digipower, which use metal gears and have replacement parts available.

Yep .The sg 2100 don't like cold weather ...That ' s why I moved to Florida...
.BTW . The new generation motors have metal gears .
p.s ..and maybe lubricant...
not only for my wife..lol

Thanks guys :)

I don't think gears are stripped, probably lubricant become stiff and need to be removed and gears lubricated again. I found replacement gears for 2100 but to be honest, if this thing need replacement I will probably buy fixed elliptical antenna. I'm little bit tired of waiting between channel change and all other problems related to motorized systems.

BTW, Chifut, I like your solution the most :)

My sg 2100 has endured 4 Canadian winters and now heading for a fifth- never had an issue.

my brand x lasted 1 day and I had to rip it apart.(lava h2h)
The position sensors were shot and I had to disconnect them.
It's been diseqc 1.2 ever since I have to be careful not to go too far with it since there are no stops.
Playing with euro firmware on the coolsat 4000 was a pain, even tho motor control was turned off the motor
would move all the way east until it locked up.

Mine's on its 6th canadian winter - mind you I don't use it much .lol Either way one looks at it at an initial investment of $55 amortized over 4 - 5 years there is nothing to loose sleep over - when(if ?) my goes I'll persuade Costa that his is outdated/needs upgrading and take it of his hands

Big boys for fta bud and the others for bev and dn. If and when that motor goes, it's going to be replaced with a stationary dish for 110, 119 and 129- motor not required.

I'm just in process of doing that. I realized if I want to lubricate motor I have to remove the dish and then bother with aiming again. Instead, I'll replace it with stationary dish and after lubricating move motorized dish to satellite it was aiming most of the time. Basically I will end up with two stationary dishes.

I am also on my 4th Canadian winter with my 2100 and it works likes a charm. ***Touch wood***
You can also buy Gear Housing with Gear Assembly for the SG2100 for $35.00 but really I would just replace the motor because they are pretty inexpensive.

I'm just not sure if I want to have motorized system at all. I was thinking about replacing motor with stationary elliptical even while it was working fine since I was aiming at AMC5 most of the time. So I'll probably move the dish manually to that bird and install elliptical for other sats.

Since I installed this antenna I always had small problemsr. From time to time motor would lose aim on all satellites so I would have to go into setting and move them all few steps back. This was motor issue since I already moved antenna once to new location and problem was still there. Motor is slow and it takes about 10 sec to move between birds. All this combined just got me thinking about benefits of having stationary dish.
