I have a wayne mp98 model MLS oil burning furnace it was running for the first time this year and died in the night last night. I bled the line this morning and it will not fire still, I have no idea about the way this motor works, the nozzle location, the screen-if it has one location, or what it might be doing to suddenly not fire. when it isn't lit the reset switch trips, mostly just when it's out of fuel or the burner isn't lit. yes i was pissing with the reset button and trying it many times, it was just serviced less than a year ago and a new oil pump was installed, when the bleeder is cracked open and motor is on the thing flows oil just fine but won't light the burner for some reason and i would ratrher not call someone as i really cant afford a tech call plus a new burner if need be anyone know anything about this model, o and its in a underwriters laboratories oil furnace

Oil burners work like this.... when it starts, the pump pulls fuel from a tank, turns the oil into a very fine mist, the fine oil mist has a air blower that pushes the oil into the combustion chamber where there is a high voltage ignition (10,000 volts or more) electrodes that light the Oil .... If the oil fails to ignite the safety locks out ...... Lol

I am a little leery that you may have filled your combustion chamber with oil. I would suggest that you pull the gun out of furnace opening to see if you can verify the presence of oil in the chamber.

If you are not comfortable with doing that, then PLEASE call someone in to service your unit. If you did fill the chamber with oil and it did ignite, you may be replacing more then you think.

Most likely it is a plugged nozzle, which is located on the end of the gun and/or a shorted out ignition probes (carbon particles/soot) or a bad high voltage transformer. You can always watch the service person and learn what to do if you are not sure.

ok so from about seven until one today i did much research and decided to get into this on my own...concept seemed to be almost the same as the turbo heaters in a garage you know the crazy jet 100,000+ btu deals, anyway i pulled the center out and there it was...super gapped and black elecrodes above a super black nozzle which was actually new at the beginning of the year, figured i might as well get a new one, so I spec'd the furnace and purchased a new one. Scotch pad the electrodes afer removing then from the casing, cleaned whole unit, replaced and aligned the electrodes using the correct toll which i purchased this morning, tested the coils resistance and voltage everything read good, put it all back together and she fired right up. I was honestly really worried about working on this until I stumbled across this website, so thanks to anyone who posts on here and happens to stumble across this
