sounds like a pirated copy of windows really.
click start / computer / system properties
does it say windows is activated and genuine at the bottom of that page?

the "windows 7 starter" version which i am sure you have, doesn't come with that feature.

in this link they provide a reg hack that would allow you to change the desktop wallpaper
unfortunately it does not work for me despite numerous attempts at it; anyone got it working?

Go to cnet/downloads and search for something and pc world might have it , if not i'm afraid you will have to pay for an version that works.

thanks stman but that involves installing another program; not that important to me; if it's a reg hack I am willing to try it as nothing is added to the OS, except for a modification
if you read the comments in this link, you will see that peeps suggest not to install this extra program because it bogs down the PC
the only other option I can suggest for those that really want to change their wallpaper is to buy a licence upgrade key from MS which can turn your Win7 Starter into Win7 Ultimate or Home edition and thus enables the wallpaper feature

Experience from this forum should show that you will have a few that will not be satisfied with anything. :) You'll note that other than a few, the comments there were positive. lol
