View Full Version : Need help about skew

I replaced a single LNB dish to a D*500. The old dish did not have a skew option, which makes sense since it was only a single LNB. I have the elevation, azimuth, and skew readings from a site and wanted to make sure that I have the right concept as far as setting the skew. If I need a clockwise skew of 31, would I place the skew right at the 121 degree marker?
I also have another stupid question. I am not sure which of the cables were originally connected to the 119 and 110 spots on the old dish.....if they are crossed what could happen if anything?
I am guessing that I could still use the same mast from the old dish, since it was level and plumb. If this is not correct, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help.

The skew you have mentioned is correct, you add the 31 degrees to the 90 starting point. All done from the BACK of the dish.

If you had the old legacy LNB's and you are trying to hook the new LNB (is it a DP twin, or 2 DP singles?) back up to a switch then we need to know what type of switch and LNB's you have.

The D500 dish usulay comes with a DP twin LNB on it, (1 large oval eye) this type of LNB has an internal switch and does not need an external switch, it will run 2 receivers without the switch.

It's internal switching is set to 119 = Diseqc port 1, and 110 = Diseqc port 2.

And the old mast will work fine.

One other thing, if the LNB's you had were the old legacy type then check you coax, as the old type does not need the higher frequency rated coax that the band stacking DP LNB's do, if you have the new DP LNB(s) then you need coax rated to 2.5 or 3 GHz, it should be marked on the coax.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I am replacing and old Dick dish that had a single LNB with a Dish Pro dual LNB. It has three inputs...and I am guessing that the third input is to add on if wanted. I know I originally told you that it was the DP500...that is what the dish states, but according to the photos on this site, it appears that the LNB is the Dish Pro dual...so hope that does not change things. Will I be able to use the wiring from the old setup to get signal on this new one? I am not that familiar with switches, so am not sure if I have to add one in order to get this to work. I really appreciate your help.

If this is the lnb you have, the DP twin, as Terryl said above it has an internal switch already to switch between the 1119 and 110 lnb. The position of your coax on the back won't make a difference. Each connection off the two outputs will operate a single receiver, just add the port 1 + 119 and port 2 + 110 commands to your receiver's antenna settings.

if the lnb has 3 ports then it is a dish pro plus, the #3 port is for a second single dish imput for a third sat in other words the dish you are taking down could be used the
third port of the disc pro plus to get another sat like 129.0W, now if you are useing just one reciver then you only need one rg6 cable and no switch if you are useing
2 recivers then you will need 2 rg6 cables and no switch is needed just one rg6 cable for each reciver now how to id the port to use on the dish pro plus, the 2 ports
that are side by side are the ports to use for your reciver the other port is for sat in so if you are useing just one reciver put your rg6 cable on one of the side by side ports and run it to your reciver now i dont know what reciver you have but sat 119.0W will be port 1 and sat 110.0W will be port 2 and if you want to add a third sat it would be port 3.
hope this helps
