Toronto signs Tim Connolly for 2 years (Total value $9.5 million )

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed centre Tim Connolly to a two-year deal worth $9.5 million on Saturday.
The Leafs were one of the teams that was making a hard play for Brad Richards, one of the most sought-after centres in this year's free-agent draft. Richards on Saturday decided to sign with the New York Rangers for $60 million over nine years.
Connolly has spent the past eight years with the Buffalo Sabres but has had injury issues the past six seasons. His best year was in 2009 when he recorded 17 goals (one shy of his career best) and a career-high 48 assists and 65 points. He missed another 14 games in 2010 and finished with 42 points and a minus-10.
In 627 career games with the New York Islanders and Sabres, he recorded 118 goals and 277 assists for 395 points. In 36 career playoff games, he has 5 goals and 18 assists after recording two assists in six playoff games for Buffalo in 2011.
Connolly was the first-round selection, taken fifth overall by the Islanders, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft
