Hi all,

I'm looking for some answers in setting up\confirming my setup.. This is the setup I currently have running:
I have a wifi signal from across highway which is coming in strong from cable modem.
#1- I set up the first TP-link access point as a client with an outside antenna in trailer #1
#2- Hardwired into #2 access point as just an AP in first trailer.
#3- The third Tp-link access point in my trailer #2, is set up as a client again to receive signal from trailer #1 AP to feed the second Nano 2.

I've also secured both the Base router from across highway and the rest of the trailer park..
The default Gateway from cable\modem combination is 192.168.0.1 from house. I've
set all the Tp-links ( 3 ) in total, from their default ip's of 192.168.1.1, to the base units Gateway address of 192.168.0.1
DHCP address's are given from house unit to the rest of the park

Wondering if this is what I should have done or just left units at their defaults.

Have had a few Ip conflicts pop up which made me change defaults to the current setup.
Set this up yesterday and all worked well till this morning. Trailer #1 lost ip. Had to reboot the 2 units in trailer #1 and everything is working again...
Currently everything is working fine.. I pinged all routers ( 4 ) and the ( 2 ) nano's and
all have replied...
I'm not real sure whether I'm on the right track here...

Sorry for the long story. Learning this stuff on the fly.

Any help will be appreciated !!

Thanks!

just a thought here but it might work better if all IPs were assigned and you eliminated the DHCP aspect of things

I'm not sure what you mean?? My limited understanding in setting up a network is as stated (limited)... I just assumed that the base cable modem\router is the one that assign's all Ip addresse's to everything connected to this network.. Would this be correct? Can I set up dhcp server from the first client ap to act as the server to assign ip's?

A real nice read, you are better off doing some home work to not only learn how to properly set this up, but to maintain it as well..Read through this and then ask if you are not sure.

Ok it depends on your router for the specifics for doing so but essentially what you would do is assign each STB within your IP range manually and turn the DHCP to off. This way that device every time you turn it on will have the same internal IP on your network. On the router side it depends on the brand just how you would do it and they might refer to it as assigned IPs or reserved IPs but each IP you assign to a box or a game machine or a computer will have that IP number earmarked to it. That should eliminate any IP conficts and it also makes it much easier to maintain a network when the internal IP is the same for each device all the time

Okay... The default gateway from the house router is 192.168.0.1, should the first client have this gateway put in?? What I had done was tried a lot of different setups. Always seemed to eventually get an IP conflict...
I put the default gateway address into client #1 and also the AP with the same gateway.. Then client #2 in my trailer the same default gateway of 192.168.0.1.... Then when everything went south on me, I defaulted the ap's to their box values and setup as before... Currently as of 5 mins ago, I have both boxes working and able to connect to the ap wirelessly to write this reply....
Been playing with this stuff since the morning....
I have read the link that Bigpineguy sent with limited understanding... Thank you for any thoughts you may have.... I really don't understand why it's working at this very moment but It should crash soon.. No IP conflicts so far... If this conflict comes back, which it will, I will try assigning IP's for everything I can....

You can't set up all those A/P's with the same default gateway you'll run into i.p. conflicts like you are experiencing. That gateway is already taken by the main router you are leeching from....assign your 3 A/P's static gateways something like 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.11 and 192.168.0.12 respectively do NOT duplicate any gateway i.p.'s on any of the A/P's.

Once that is done then do as Nostradamus says and give all your computers on the network a static i.p. too....well outside the range of what the router will hand out. The gateway 192.168.0.1 sounds like a DLink router....so the DHCP server in the router will hand out i.p.'s all the way up to I think its 192.168.0.98....if I remember right or 192.168.0.99....I think its 100 leases that it can hand out. You want to then set up ALL your computers and devices that are connecting to that gateway something like 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.0.101 and so on but you can't go over 192.168.0.199

The reason its not working is you have the gateways duplicating the main gateway that you are leeching from AND you have i.p. conflicts when you bring a computer on the network 'cause they are going to be issued 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and so on....which is conflicting with this guys computers and causing the i.p. conflict so you have to reboot them and bring them back online to be issued a higher i.p. in the DHCP pool.

Oops almost forgot you need to disable DHCP on the A/P's like Nostradamus says.
