Hi,
Had a friend ask me to use his old 33" dish and get him the 97W fta feed. Is this possible?
I understand that I will have to change the LNB to get KU band feed, however, is it a waste of time or will the 33" dish pick it up nicely?

I have a 30" dish with a linear lnb in the midwest USA and 97W was easy to locate. You need to remember to skew the lnb and also your location will make a difference.

The size dish required depends on your location, some like Bluesman (hi Blues) can use a 30" others need a larger dish, I use a 39", take a look at the link below, it will give you the foot print of 97W, select the "Ku" band foot print and then zoom into your area, click the mouse on your location and it will give you an estimate of the dish size needed in your area for 97W.
Remember this is only an estimate.

And not all transponders send out the same power of signal--they are usually close, but a dB of variation is not unheard of or odd to see. One of my fav on that sat is on one of the weaker TP, so I have trouble getting it at times, even though most of the rest of the bird is no trouble at all with a 30 inch dish. Sounds like I'm not that far from bluesman-- in pretty good spot in the footprint.

Great, I checked the sat beams site and I should be able to pick up a strong signal with the 33" dish.
I had another friend ask me about using a 24" Oval dish to pick up 97W.... I told him it's better to get a 30" + , but he said that he's gonna try it.. . I will report his success or failure shortly.

It's all in the location, it's a linear bird, the bigger the dish the better the signal and the less problems with weather fade.
