i wanted to hook up a 2nd receiver up stairs i have 110/119 with 1 diceq switch to 1 receiver and now another diceq switch to the other receiver 2 separate lines into the house and the new receiver only picks up 1 sat and the signal is very low no quality and only when the other receiver is on. but my new rg6 cable going to the new receiver is spliced once and has two connecters on it so that might be part of the signal loss .

The first thing to look at is the switch - connect the new receiver to each lnb in turn with the switch removed. What happens?

my switches should be ok because i used both on the receiver that was already hooked up and i switched receiver on the set up that works

It doesn't take much to damage a diseqc switch. Did you try swapping the receivers?

just on my old set up with one receiver .
Probably you need to give some info on the specific dish and lnbs that you are connecting to. Normally a cable with a barrel connection splice will not cause this type problem. Also the specific switch being used, and the specific receivers, etc.

Many "issues" arise when adding a 2nd receiver. Most issues can be resolved by one or a combination of 4 things.
1. The most important is grounding your dish system, especially switches. Remember to ground the dish or dishes, the switches, and the cables
(using 2.5GHz ground blocks) with 10ga insulated solid copper wire to an earth ground.
2. Check all cable connecters as a bad cable end could be the culprit.
3. Receiver Settings - Important to have the correct settings, sometimes it is something simple you may have overlooked.
4. A bad or cheap quality switch and/or stuck LNB(LNB may need to be replaced?).

i'm using an 18" dish with universal lnb's one old and one new poorman set up with nano2 on a emp-centauri switch 110 port1 119port 2 and a sv360p with a baff germany switch 110port1 119port2. and the new wire is connected with 1 rg6 quad extension adapter and 2 barrel connections . also how would one ground a switch that has no where to hook the wire up to ? thanks.

Since the metal case of the switch is at ground potential, use one of the mounting screws. Either wrap the wire around the screw if it's long enough, or crimp a ring terminal onto the bare wire.
How long is your cable run? Also make sure that any connectors used are installed correctly and that the braid isn't shorted to the center conductor. If they're the twist-on connectors, get rid of them, they're worthless especially outside.

Universal LNBs are Linear LNBs. Circular Polarity LNBs are required for 119 & 110. Are you sure you have a Universal Linear LNB ?
Some switches do not have a grounding point and no mounting screws as well, however these switches are usually of a higher quality. Don't forget to ground the cables using 2.5GHz grounding blocks. These come in singles, duals, and quads. I find the best placement for the grounding block is after the switches before your cable runs into your home. Also ground the dish as well to an earth ground.

i must have circular polarity lnbs because my S&Q are fine for one receiver and i'm going to hook up the ground blocks and see if that works for the 2nd receiver . so you only ground the dish and the two cables to the receiver and not the two cables going into the switch ?

You don't need to ground the cables going into the switch.
You should have a set up like this9784

i fixed the problem thanks to everyones help it turned out to be the rg6 cable i put up , i changed it to one solid wire instead of 4 different rg6 cables connected together . it was probably the quad 4 rg6 cable splice connector i've never seen one before or used one so i'm guessing it was mainly just that.
