NASCAR limits cooling options to cut Cup speeds

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR officials have told teams to remove an auxiliary air hose used to cool engines in an attempt to reduce speeds that topped 200 mph in practice at Daytona International Speedway.

For now, NASCAR is not changing the size of cars' restrictor plates.

By limiting the cars' cooling systems, officials hope to cut back the number of laps a pair of cars can run bumper-to-bumper in the draft.

The repaved Daytona track is so smooth that one car can push another all the way around the track, allowing both cars to go faster.

It's basically the same setup as Talladega. Why slow them down at Daytona??I wonder what Nascar will do in the future when all cars are fuel-inject..Cheers

That is just more motivation to be out front.. No cooling issues there..
Why all the fuss about limiting speeds.. Let em run loose, and work on their aerodynamics and downforce.
Nascar has so many rules to keep the pack tight that a lot of tmes the winner is more a questio of luck than the best car.. If your lucky not to get caught in a big accident, Lucky with the cautions an refueling, luccky to get a good drafting partner.. Need I go on..
Thats why rallye racing is such a blast, delayed starts and after thet its the fastest car and driver that wins.. Seldom seen a ralle being stopped because someone else crashed.. Just flaggers warning of an obstruction and the race goes on..
Nascar should look at racing 4 bangers if their worried about speeds..

If they can go 203 MPH in testing, let 'em go. Bill Elliot did this many moons ago. You wanna race, then race. If they can go 210, then let them go 210. They average 185 plus at most fast tracks. Ya think an extra 15 or 20 MPH will make a difference to these guy's. I think not. Put your safety stuff up front and let them race.

I think their problem is aerodynamics.. Maybe we will see some flying cars...Let the games begin..
