Is it possible to split the signal AFTER the stb and before tv?
Hooking 2 Tvs to the same stb. Splitting the signal to 2 different rooms ?
I know the same channel will be seen .
What switch or splitter could be used.

why not use composite to one tv and rg to other?

composite are the rca's
rg is the coaxial

I never thought of it.
Never used composite. Only RG and HDMI.
What if the run is longer than Composite.
Receiver is across the room from set 1 and set 2 is next room?

You could use a long HDMI cable for the set in the room. I would not exceed 25ft, even though you can go up to 49 feet without adding a booster. For that set in the other room you can use coax(RG6), or coax for both sets using a 2.5GHz splitter. If your STB does not have a RF output then you will need a RF modulator to convert from composite to coax.

RF Modulator:

8436

If you wanted to run composite cables to 1 set and it is a distance you could make your own composite cables using RG6 coax cable. You would need 6 adapter ends like this:
8437
However you would then need to run 3 cables to that set rather then 1 RG6 cable using the RF modulator(if needed).

There are many ways to do this.

One way is to use the RF output and a RF splitter, you can then run coax to both TV’s, but the RF output is not the best signal.

The second way is to use the video/audio outputs (Yellow, Red and White RCA jacks) for the closest TV and the RF output to the second TV, the next best is the S-Video output, you can run S-Video up to 30 feet with out problems, but you still need the audio, and that may have problems at that distance, there are S-Video splitters and two way audio splitters.

Next best is component output (Blue, Green and Red RCA jacks) you will also have to run the Red and White audio to the first TV.

However the component video can’t be run more then 20 to 35 feet (depending on the quality of the cables you use) unless you use a couple of these hummers, then you can run it several hundred feet and run up to 4 TV’s with the high quality video and audio..

The last way and the best way is to use the HDMI output, you can get an HDMI to CAT5 distribution box and run HDMI to both TV’s (look at the same site I posted above) this would be the best option.

How you do this is up to you, its all up to what you can afford.

I'd run HDMI to the closest TV, and composite to the distant set. As Will posted, you can make your own composite cables with RG6 coax and the proper connectors. Monoprice.com also has long composite cables at very good prices.

Just got thru checking, set one ( closest set) has NO Hdmi , older set, set 2 does not have one either. But set 1 is close enough for composite or RCA cables. so will run cables to it and I gues RG cable to #2 its about 40 feet away.
Is that possible?
STB is an Ultra
Thanks

Just got thru running the coax. Niether set had composite or componet hook ups. Made in '05 just had them in front for camera , video hook up . so ran rg to both sets. Do I have to have a 2 way 2.5 Ghz Sat splitter or will a cable splitter work since it am splitting after the ultra?
Thanks.

A cable splitter will work, just use a good one, the cheap ones tend to cause problems with interference and have a higher insertion loss.

Yes it works. Had my sub set up that way for years.

Awesome thread. I was wanting to do the same thing to run a feed from my livingroom to my bedroom tv.

I use an amplified splitter for mine..That way there is no insertion loss..They are quite inexpensive at any electronics parts supplier...

You could use a powered 3x4 multiswitch as well. Remember you are to connect the RG6 from the receiver to the "Antenna" Input of the multiswitch. (NOT the 18V or 13V inputs)

You can do as I do , Google TV Transmitter! You can buy a Transmiter that will transmit about 300 feet. You come out the yellow, white and red connectors of your STB and connnect them to the inputs on transmitter. The quality is just as good as using a rf cable input. You put your tv on any channel above 13 (UHF). I have a TV in kitchen and bedrooms.
The only problem is the transmitter tens to drift til it is warmed up then it is stable, so I turn it on for about 15 minutes before using it. Cost is about $20.00 plus shipping. The name on my unit is "VIDEO SENDER".
