The shortlist for Razzies or the Golden Raspberry Awards for the worst movies of the year has been announced. Described as anti-Oscars, the nominees are out for 2011, although they will be officially announced only on January 24.

Dubai Hollywood Leading the pack is Christina Aguilera’s Burlesque with five nods. It is up for worst director, worst screenplay worst supporting actor for Cam Gigandet, worst supporting actress for both Cher and Kristen Bell and worst actress for Christina Aguilera. Burlesque has not been nominated for worst picture.

Movies in line for the worst picture title include:

- The Bounty Hunter starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler which made more news for its publicity driven rumours of romance between the lead pair. Unfortunately the romance was completely absent on-screen with no –chemistry between the two.

- The Last Surrender by Manoj Night Shyamalan was panned by the rottentomatoes.com saying the film squandered away great potential material in laughable dialogues and an incomprehensible plot. Dev Patel played the lead. From Slumdog Millionaire, an scar winner to The Last Surrender is a great jump indeed for him.

- Sex And The City 2: This film’s nomination should surprise no one. The movie looked like one long fashion show which lost its way to Dubai. It had a lot of cringe value with no script, bad acting and insensitive depiction of Muslim culture.

- The Twilight Saga: Eclipse: Grossing more than $300 million, the movie did not please the viewers too much. Filled with too many characters and uninspired is what critics called it.

- Little Fockers: The Little Fockers has been panned by the critics as juvenile and gross. With a star cast boasting of Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Barbara Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, Harvey Keital and Owen Wilson, one wonders how it could go wrong. The answer lies in a bad script, forced humour, and bored stars who did not like spouting the lines they were given.

Other films on the list are Grown Ups, The Expendables, Jonah Hex, Eclipse, Vampires Suck and Yogi Bear.

The Razzies were created in 1980 as a logical antidote to tinsel town’s annual self-congratulatory line of awards by John Wilson.

Well I will say that The Bounty Hunter was pretty terrible, but then again I probably should've known that simply by seeing Jennifer Aniston's name as a featured star in the movie. From what I remember, (and I've really tried not to), was a bunch of horrible dialogue that felt like it was being rushed through in order to get to some funnier and more interesting scenes. Alas, there didn't end up being any of those.
The only other "nominated" movie that I saw was Eclipse, which I though was okay, but tend to agree about too many uninspired characters, not to mention that everyone seemed to be so angry all the time.
The rest of the flicks might be ok if you have a DVD player beside the toilet for those lengthy sit downs.
JMO.
