As usual, developers have gone digging into the latest beta release, iOS4.3 and have discovered some pretty interesting add-ons and new hardware that should be coming in the next few months.

First, unreleased devices are being referenced in the new firmware, including several new iphones: a possibly revised iPhone 4 (iPhone 3,3, the AT&T iPhone 4 is referenced as iPhone3,1 and the the Verizon iPhone is iPhone 3,2) and a more significant hardware upgrade (iPhone4,1 and 4,2). The firmware also references a new set of iPads (iPad 2,1 through 2,3) which I'm sure comes as a shock to everyone, however the multiple versions referenced could be more proof that the iPad 2 will come to multiple carriers.

Also discovered in the beta firmware is an unreleased MobileMe service, currently called "Find My Friends", which could be a service to rival other popular location-based social networking services such as Loopt or Google Lattitude.

Along with these discoveries, iOS 4.3 provides many new features, including in-app AirPlay, multi-touch gestures for the iPad, and the mobile hotspot feature, first announced on the Verizon iPhone 4.

The iOS 4.3 software update will be available for the iPad, iPhone 4 and 3GS, and the iPod Touch 4th and 3rd Generation, it seems unlikely, with the referencing of the new, upgraded hardware, that any older device will receive the 4.3 upgrade.
