i get wireless connection for a bit then no connection.when i restart it does the same thing.anyone ever have this problem?

it could be your isp, i had problems with a dsl connection, the modem would cut out for just a quick second , but it was enough to throw you off line.
when this happens take a quick look at lights on moden/router.
I have a further complication to what you have lsited above. In addition once I get cut off I have to hard reboot both the router and modem before it would reconnect. I have 3 laptops and 1 desktop and it happes to them all. Sometime the modem will stop broadcasting a wireless signal but will be ok with the LAN connections - any ideas?

Try updating the router's firmware.

Use a better router. To do this, run a wire from one of your modem ports to the wan port on the new router- then use that router to connect to wireless instead of the modem. If you're using dsl it'll isolate you from the internet a little more too
