i dont know about the dish, but what i can tell you is, once you can get an LNB in there and you get signal from which ever bird you are lookin to lock and it has both sd/hd channels and you are usin the correct receiver/stb you will get just that. . .the question of if you can use that dish with multiple LNBs is something someone else will need to answer.

The kti dish was designed for hd dtv - so there is no reason why it wouldn't work . It can also be used for dn/bev but it will not get all tps - ppl usually replace the lnb assembly with standard legacy lnbs.

This dish has 4 outputs and 3 lnbs with a multi switch.
Also has a skew adjustment. I am assuming that I could set the skew at 76 dgrees and elevation around 40 dgrees. Then point it about 202 on the compass. That should get the 101 bird. This is the easy part????? But will I be able to get all tps/chnnels from the multiple birds????

The newer DTv dishs for HD are bigger ovals using the slim line design.
It seems to me it should work. But I guess what I am asking is how well????
Am I wasting my time????

it's not a normal LNB and switch so you are probably wasting your time ...

the multiswitch is a 22KHz switch so there's only 2 possibilities ON/OFF but there are 3 LNBs so the switch combines some transponders from the middle LNB (110 position) and some from the left LNB (119 position) ...

when viewed from behind the dish the right LNB (101 position) is the only LNB that receives all transponders

the other 2 LNBs are combined by the switch :

you will only get 10 transponders from the middle LNB. They are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 28, 30 and 32.

the other 22 transponders are from the left LNB ...

My kti dish worked fine with a hughes HD receiver in the days of hu cards . As you stated it's a bit on the small side (that's what makes it a mediocre dish for getting 119/110/91 when equipped with legacy lnbs) but it will work fine for dtv hd. Setting up is straight forward - look at dishpointer.com for dish pointing / setting coordinates.

I guess I am kinda confused by this question.

Are you wanting to use this dish for a subbed DTV setup, or for a FTA setup?

If you are wanting to use it for a subbed DTV setup, it will work perfect, but I think that HD for DTV is not on any of the three sats that dish will pick up.

Now if you are wanting to use that dish for a FTA setup, as it sets now, you are waisting your time. Without digging up the specifics, that LNB was designed for DTVs setup only. That means at the time that thing was designed, DTV was primarily on 101, 110, and 119.

Now the kickers...

101 natuarally is for DTV only, so no use there for FTA.
On 110 DTV only uses three transponders, and all three are L polarity. That LNB specificly blocks the R polarity transponders on 110 because they are all DN.
On 119 DTV uses 11 transponders towards the upper end, and I think that LNB also does something similar to block those lower transponders, because they are not DTV.

Now the good side....

You can use this dish for FTA. Easiest, and best way, as stanw pointed out already, is to use standard legacy LNBs.

Best way to do this is to cut the LNB arm right where it starts to fan out to accept the larger LNB, and then mount a 4 LNB mount on the dish arm.

That will give you the option of say... 110, 119, and 129, or 61.5, 72, and 82, or 72, 82, and 91.....or any other combination you can think of with 20 degrees of span.

If you want to use it for Subbed DTV it will work for 101,119 (the HD channels on 110 were moved to 103).You will only get SD channels with that dish.

If you need DTV HD you would need a slimline dish as the HD signals are on the KA satellites ( 99 and 103).The Few HD channels that were on DTV 110 were moved to 103.The KA signal requires a special KA lnb only found on the slimline dish.

For SD reception the dish would work fine...for HD...you need the Slimline.

Now for DN or BEV FTA use....you can modify the dish and use it for 110/119 or 82/91.

I am sorry to say it wont work for DTV HD.Lots have changed since the HU days.

He would need a slimline dish to get the KA signal on 99 and 103 ( which is where all the HD channels are).

As has already been posted, you can use the reflector, but the LNB's have to be changed.

Here is a picture of how I did mine some years back, when we could get BEV with stand-alone files (the closest LNB).

You simply cut the feedhorn where it flares out, attach a three or four LNB holder, and separate LNB's.

Any satellite dish that receives SD can receive HD as well, just as any terrestrial TV antenna designed for analog can also receive digital channels.

Many thanks for all your inputs !

I will report to you all that the dish works fine for SD on DTV but with an
H24 700 DTV box it will not provide HD quality signal. Mus be compatible with a broad band filter. This dish will not do HD with the H24 DTV box !!!!! However, it does provide a good SD picture !

This dish works perfectly for SD quality picture only. I am sure it would work for picking up dish birds 119/110 birds and maybe 91 ????? Being the HU card days are long gone and the stand alone bins are gone as well with N3 it dosen't leave much to test.

I will look round for a slim line dish now !

Really appreciate all the responeses and advice !

Thanks again

That dish wont work for DTV HD...too small and he would need KA lnbs which are designed to fit the slimline dish which is a bigger dish.In short if he needs DTV HD he needs a slimline...no short cuts...or he would be wasting his time.

For DN and BEV...the modified dish would work.

You need a slimline dish. The Phase 3 dish is designed for 101,110,119 and wont see the KA signals on 103 and 99...which is where the HD signals are.The KA signal and frequency is very different and unique to DTV.

For SD signals on 101 and 119...the phase 3 works....for HD...get a slimline.

If your locals are on 103...then all you need is an SL3 slimline dish.If the locals are on 119...you need an SL5 slimline dish.

Also since you are using the H24 you are better off getting a SWM slimline dish/lnb or you would need BBC for the KA signals on 103 and 99.The none SWM lnb's require the Broad band Converters to work with the H24.

any more questions...just ask.

Thank You Fearlss 1:

I really appreciate your in depth explanation. All makes sense now. I am glad I asked. I currently have an H24 box working with a BBC attached to a slimline dish. I guees from what you said it is not a slimline 5 but a slimline 3 !

Thanks for all the good info ! Now I will hunt for a good slimline dish !

Do you get the HD channels from 103 and 99? If you do...you dont really need to get a new dish unless your locals are on 119...then you would need an SL5 slimline dish / lnb. Most locals are on 99 so an SL3 does the job and they are in HD. Now there are some markets that dont have their locals on 99 and they are still on 119...if that is your case then you would need an SL5 lnb on that slimline dish if you need those local channels.

Another situation where an SL5 is needed is if you need the Spanish channels as they are on 119....you would then need an SL5 lnb ( note the SL3 and SL5 slimline dish pan are the same..the differences are the lnb).

SL3 would do 99,101 and 103 while SL5 would do 99,101,103,110 and 119.

All HD are on 99 and 103.

SD are on 101 and 119 with 110 having only test signals( all channels on 110 were moved to 103).

So if your local channels are not on 119 and you dont need Spanish programming you dont need the SL5 lnb.

Now to add to the mix there are two types of Slimline LNB. The regular one with 4 outputs and the SWM one with one output ( single wire multiswitch).

If using the one with 4 out puts you would need to run two lines from the lnb to the receiver if you are using a dual tuner plus BBC would be needed for the KA signals coming from 99 and 103 or you wont get the HD channels( unless you are using the H23 or HR23 which has the BBC built into the receiver).

If you are using the one with one output ( the SWM lnb) you dont need the BBC as the SWM technology takes care of this and you only need a single line running from the SWM lnb to the power inserter /switch and receiver.

If you already have the slimline Dish itself and you want to take advantage of the SWM technology the only thing you need to change is the LNB itself. If its already working with a BBC and you get all your channels( especially your networks on 99 then you dont really need a new dish).

This shouldnt be confused with the Phase 3 dish which is an older dish designed for only 101,110 and 119 and is only used for none HD setups.

Thank you Fearlss 1

What I am trying to do is set up for my summer cottage which is North of the
US boarder. I need a Dish that will work with the DTV H24 box. I don't need to be telling DTV about this. I just want to be able to take my H24 with me when I go there and hook it up to the dish so I can have HD TV with me.

Now if I understand you correctly, if I get an SL5 slimeline dish then I do not need the BBC but if I get an SL3 slimline then I need the BBC.

My current setup in my home is a H24 with an SL3 and external BBC.

I hope this clears up what I am trying to do???? Thanks again. Your very knowledgable !

Are you an installer/DTV????? If you are then forget everything I just typed !

You dont need the BBC if the lnb on the dish is SWM ( it doesnt matter if its SL5 or SL3 as they both have SWM versions). There are two types of lnbs on the slimline dish. The SWM one and the older one with 4 outputs. You need a BBC for the older type while you dont need the BBC if using the SWM lnb on the dish. The SWM technology eliminates the need for the BBC and dual lines for the DVR.

Now your H24 is a single tuner so you dont need dual lines and any slimline dish ( doesnt matter if its SWM lnb or the older 4 output slimline lnb) would work.

For simplicity I would say stick to the type of setup you've got at home so the receiver is plug and play wherever you take it instead of it going through the initialization process if you use SWM lnb versus what you have at home.

So get an SL3 regular( with 4 outputs)with the BBC and use at your cottage.

Also for the records...I dont work for DTV or any provider :)

Just part of the extensive knowledge and experience I have regarding things like this :) :)
