Scorched Earth in Canada: Watch for a big, BIG fight in Canada as the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission conducts hearings over whether cable and sat providers should pay retranmission fees for carrying broadcasters’ signals. Stung by slumping ad markets, the broadcasters are hoping for 50-cent fee per signal; cable and sat ops are fighting back hard saying the fees would result in $5 to $10/month rate hikes for consumers. It’s all in government hearings now with more fireworks sure to come.
Imam TV? Iran says it plans to boost the number of satellite channels available to viewers. No word on whether All-Imam-All-The-Time will be mandatory.
