View Full Version : Setup not making sense

I've set up 2 receivers with disecq switches as follows: port 1 - 119 port 2 - 110 & port 4 - 91. On the first disecq everything works great, but when setting up the 2nd one, after initially having each signal allocated to the ports, all ports revert to the 91 signal. I've tried this with 3 different disecqs and they all do the same thing so I know it's not the switch. After playing for half the day I changed it out for a SW21 and it works fine, but I don't have 119 anymore. I've changed cable connectors and cable from switch to receiver. Any ideas??

Lots of receivers do not like sharing lnbs. Does the problem persist with 1 receiver powered of?
Have you tried setting lnb type on 1 receiver to standard the other universal? Swapping the receivers on the lines?

Are you grounding your switches?

Agreed - Most switching issues arise when you add that 2nd receiver. All Dishes, cables, and especially switches need to be grounded using 10ga insulated copper ground wire to an earth ground. Use 2.5GHz ground blocks for the cables.

what kind of LNBs? DP or legacy?

My apologies for not responding earlier, my e-mail didn't let me know about responses. Anyway to respond to your questions...yes the lnbs and switches are grounded, both lnbs are digiwave DGL900Ds, I was setting these up using a CS5K receiver. The 1st set up fine with an old coolsat disecq, the next one would work once scrolling through and setting up each sat, then on the next scroll through each port would default to Nimiq 91. This continued with 3 different disecqs (yes I unplugged the receiver each time when making connection changes). Originally I had 91 on port 1 but figured that maybe putting the lowest signal (119) on port 1 would make more sense. As it turns out it doesn't matter which sat is on which port as they all default to Nimiq 91 on the second scroll through

Get rid of the existing diseqc switch and get either a Chieta Heavy Duty or and EMP Centauri switch. The switches that come with STB are of poor quality and are known to cause problems sooner or later. I believe yours is causing problems now.

I've tried 3 different ones, one of which was a chieta and also a dixecq 2.0. All 3 did the exact same thing

Which brand / model of receivers are you using?

On the non working set-up run a cable from each sat straight to stb(use a barrel connector if needed) Dont forget to change ant settings to reflect no switch. If all sats are good it HAS to be your switch

I did that, ran both setups direct to CS5K setup by the ladder. One works, one doesn't.

I used a CS5K for tuning in & inside running to Phoenix & CNX mini.

If 1 cable works and not the other, with the same receiver, than the problem is with the cable , recheck your connectors/cable.

But I ran the same cable from the both switches to the receiver. Each setup was the same, the only difference was cabling upstream of the switches and on those I changed over to crimp connectors from screw on. I could switch out those cables also but it doesn't make sense that that's the problem. The only thing I haven't tried is re-connecting switches that have been used to see if they do the same thing, but I don't think that's accomplishing anything.

Enrico first thing you can try is to setup each receiver differently on diseqc ports to lessen the possibility of one receiver conflicting with the other..
1st receiver setup diseqcs..119 to port#1/110 to port#2/91 to port#3
2nd receiver setup diseqcs..119 to port#4/110 to port#3/91 to port#1
If this doesn't work then suggest you route cables coming from diseqcs thru ground blocks and then go to receivers...Then using a minimum 10AWG copper wiring ground the swithes to the block and from there to a good ground point(usually your home ground near power meter)
As for connectors I recommend only using compression ends as the twist on and crimp ends will eventually loosen over time and you may experience signal loss

Thanks Wuf, initially I had 119 setup on port 4 with 91 on port 1. I changed that around based on another thread that I'd read. Anyway, the switches are grounded to each and to my main panel, maybe I'll try grounding separately and to a block. Although the SW21 in place is working great with the same grounding setup

The SW21 is a far more reliable switch then diseqcs thus the reason it works when connected....As for the grounding; The coax itself needs grounding as well;thus suggesting routing thru ground blocks...See attached pic for proper grounding;hope this helps:
