My sister was having all types of problems with her pc , mainly being sluggish , her 6 yr old likes to download every game that he comes across, so I installed win xp and formatted the drive ( I have done this many times before ) Everything worked fine last night when I installed it, they shut down the pc at the end of the night, and today, the monitor won't come on, just the blue light flashes on the power button, I took my monitor over, and it worked , no problem, I even brought her monitor over to my pc, and same thing, won't work....I googled it, and found all kinds of stuff about taking out the battery,and/or Ram, but since my monitor worked, and it didn't work here on my system, is it safe to say that she needs a new one ?

I think the answer is Yes, but it's a really nice monitor, and she doesn't have much money to replace it, so, if there is anything that I could try, I am certainly open to ideas....Thanks in advance.

BPG~

Edit: I did go and download the graphics driver for her system, and she is using onboard video card..

Sounds like you pretty much confirmed it....monitor is bad. We get this fairly often in with computors...people turn them off to bring in and power supply is dead. We see monitors that also do this....only if it's an LCD it is sometimes just the invertor in it that does this, or bad cap since you say the blue light is flashing...in a laptop...screen is black but with a flashlight you can see the background....replace invertor in laptop( cost 12-40 for part...1/2 to 1 hour labor).

What kind/brand of monitor is it Bpg ? If it is a lcd its probably the invertor board - before replacing it I would take a soldering iron to it touch up the solder on the components , it is common for them to go dad after a while.
