hey everyone. i am doing an install for a friend. he wants 110/119 which he alsread has pointed along with 91. he wants to add 118.7. i know i need to change the 119 lnb but my question is what size dish is needed to get 118.7 in the toronto area? i habve never installed or set up 118.7 so i'm not sure.

a 33 inch or bigger is recommended

118.7 requires @30" +/- dish, but a super dish (@28") should do just fine.
what kind do a dish you've got for 110/119 now?

I have a 30" dish here in western Canada and receive 118.7W with a Quality of 99-100%. I am thinking TO is a sweeter spot?

its not for me. my buddy has a regular 18" dish with a poor man's set up for 110/119 and a seperate dish for 91. i am going to buy the lnb on monday so i guess i will pick up a dish for him too. thanks for all the replies guys:)

In my previous house I had a 36" inch dish devoted to Anik f3 and never had signal quality issues.

i never had a problem aiming a dish. usually get it within a couple mins. never done a larger dish. i assume its not anymore difficult to aim a 30" dish to 118.7 compared to a regular 18' dish?

Same technique. I remembered that 118.8 was a bit low on the horizon, almost as if the dish is facing the ground.

ok cool, i will give it a shot on tuesday.

Go after 119 (12239 is it or 12297?) and you'll have 118.

doggy10
11-02-2010, 05:06 PM
ya i will try that. i was using a viewsat ultra to aim it. got great "s" but no "q". i now switched to the lime and have no "s" now. im confused. everything is connected correctly. thx

You're setting lnb freq to 10750?

edit : How many lnbs on the 33" ?

doggy10

i have the 1 lnb that picks up both 119 and 118.7.

i have the base of the dish mounted on a sloped roof. would that make a difference?

You have to adjust the mast so that it is plumb , if you don't you can't uset the dishpointer/settings on dish . You can still make it work ( for 1 lnb) but you'll be at it forever .

doggy10

what should the settings be for that lnb if i try to hit 119. should it still be 12239 for freq?

StanW

Lnb freq 10750 , tp freq 12239.

doggy10

ok i set it to those settings. even though its not aimed there should be some "s" already and i got 0 for "s". i don't get it!!! its hooked to port 1.

You might have fried the switch - try connecting directly to the lnb ( bypass the switch )

ok well i got 110/119 on his old dish up and running on ps. hooked lnb from the 33" dish's lnb directly to receiver and gor 0 for "s" so i think the lnb is broken. i took it off and something is rattling in it so i will return it and get a new one. trying again tommorow to get 119/118.7 on the 33" dish. will post results.

Oh oh a rattle means that all the smoke has leaked out and the LNB wont supply any down to the receiver.

FYI to all:

Smoke makes all electronic devices work, if you were to say drop a handful of nails down into a toaster and turn it on you will see a bunch of smoke come out and the toaster will stop working.

StanW

...maybe recharging the freon in the lnb will suspend the rattlin particles & it will work again ? :noidea:

doggy10
11-03-2010, 12:41 PM
lmao smoke and freon......that must be it...;). well i'm going to return it and get a new one in about an hour or so and then go back to my buddy's and try hooking it up again.

ok well i replaced the lnb for a new one. before putting it on the dish i hooked it up just so see if i get some "s" because regardless of aiming it should get signal. i hooked it up directly to the stb and not through the switch. i still get no "s" at all. i am so stumped here. here are my settings.

sat 119
tp 12239
lnb freq 10750
lnb type: normal (only other option on lime is ocs-dp)
port : none

what am i doiong wrong or missing. anbout to throw this lnb as far as i can!!!

StanW

Did you try connecting it to the stb with a very short/different cable ? Try both lnbs on another receiver ?

The simple secret is to make sure that the post is 100% vertical.
As far as costactc comments on facing the ground I think he is mixed up with 129. I have an 18 inch dish that gets everything.

You should be getting S regardless which tp freq you're on . Try playing with lnb freq to see if it makes a difference.

well, in all my years of setting up, if signal was 0 then it was either a bad switch (which you say your not using) a bad coax or lnb.

wow thats a great set up!!! now on the lnb that gets both 119/118.7 do you have to have 2 coax cables hooked up to it that runs to the diseqc switch? i only have one coax hooked up?

Only 1 cable - same switch setting for both. You have to get your S problem resolved first tho.

yup thats what i thought too and thats how i have it hooked up. like i said i dont have the new lnb on the dish yet but its connected directly to the lime right now and it "should" get some "s" regardless if there is no "q" right now.

well i know the coax is good because when i hook up 110 and 119 its works fine. also the switch is new and fine because i tested it yesterday and today and it works (for 110/119). as for the lnb, it was brand new and since it didnt work i took it back and got another one today and the same thing is happening.

One way to be sure one way or another - connected to a different receiver with the short cable .

ok well i hooked it up to the vs ultra and it gets "s". so how can the lime not pick up this lnb????? it should work. after all, it is a free to air receiver. now what the hell am i gonna do????? this is weird. it can't be the file because i am using the private server file for lime since he is on nfps.

Don't have a lemonsat so I can't help you there .. Did you check all the settings , especially something that might look like lnb power on/off ?

Of course you can always try the factory default route :noidea:

doggy10
11-03-2010, 05:23 PM
ya i can do that. i email hammer to see if he knows why. maybe its a file issue or something. i quiting for today because i have to go. will keep you all posted.

i found this doggy for you to try. its by a mod on a different site (buddyjh)

I've spent some time this morning and I've resolved my weak signal issue. What I have done is this:

1-Factory defaulted the Limesat 3 times

2-Load Factory file 1.03 3 times and let it reboot when it prompted me (2.01 Factory file didn't come from manufacturer I believe since its not listed at the manufacturer site and 1.03 is latest from that site listed)

3-Did another factory default

4-Loaded file 2.53 and let it reboot when done loading and did another factory default

5-Taking the advice from ukrkoz here at *** I took my old Diseqc switch and tossed it and found a chieta 4 x 1 switch I had here and hooked it up and then scanned my sattelites

Let me add also I'm using an svideo cable and not the RCA cables

After doing all this my Limesat is working flawlessly now...channels change quicker and come up regardless of what satellite I switch to...no more weak signals and no more changing channels up and down to get a channel to come in.

Reason I loaded Factory file 1.03 is as stated above it was the latest from the factory and it cleaned my box out of all the older files and also the old STB data file which no longer works....thought I'd pass this along in case any of you wanna try it...coulda been the switch, cleaning out the box or both....
