Not quite sure about any report but my 42" Hitachi plasma has an awesome picture, especially on the s2/8psk channels with my Azbox Ultra hd stb.

I have a 50" Samsung Plasma...Awesome picture

I got to say that the new LED TV's have come a long way. If I were in the market for a new TV it would probably be LED...I would seriously consider digging deeper into them if it were me.

Here is a great place for any big ticket purchase

depends if you're thinking plasma, lcd, led, 3d?

i got mine a couple years ago and have had plasmas in lg, samsung, panasonic, and hitachi, and shopped the other brands at the store as well...i found hitachi to hav the best picture, so that's what i bought...haven't looked back.

For LCD i would go with Samsung..u can get a 40 LCD with the 120 HZ for as little as 850.00...look at the contrast ratio thats the # that seperates the men from the boys..the plasma are very good in the blacks in the picture and a little better response time the 600 Hz...Panasonic Viera with the 600 HZ is a great TV for the price..IMO the Led is a little better picture then the other ones ..so when the price comes down it would be the time to buy..the bottom line is buy what u can afford and what best fits your needs and what u like with the best picture..i have had 3 Samsung and not one issue with any of them..the oldies is about 8 years old had to replace the lamp in the DLP..the cost was about 90.00 and took 20 minutes..hope this helps

thank you guys for your advises!
The reason why i asked the top five from consumers report is because we need to subscribed to get there results, and it seems there the one who has the best review.

for now i'm hesitating between : panasonic(plasma) the S serie- the sony ex700(lcd) or the lcd samsung serie 7

As a retired broadcaster my pick would be JVC LCD, best picture for the money in my professional opinion.

Yesterday I watched My Bloody Valentine in 3D it was awesome! 3d blurays are also still limited, but last month a lot off titles are released or announced to be released
Here is a handy listhttp://www.3dmovielist.com/3ddvds.html

I think if you need a new tv go for the 3D's, the price difference isn't that big anymore and it is a great feature.
I have the Samsung 55 3D LED and I'm very happy with it, picture quality is imo superb and if you don't use an amplifier and or home theater system the sound from this unit is also amazing for such a thin tv.

As for the 3D TV channels it also converts 2D to 3D, but don't expect to much of that feature it does give the picture more dept which is nice, but in no way it is the same as the Real3D blurays

Samsung is on top of the electronic world right now. t.v's are no exception. the led is still kinda new but incredible while all reports recommend the lcd. the plasma as i understand is good for a darker room and also has a shorter life expectancy.
your call but i'd go with the Samsung lcd. they cost a bit more than other brands but i think you'll find its worth it if pic quality is important to you.
good luck

I've just bought 2 HD LED Samsung TV's and the picture on them are unbeleivable clear and u also can see every little detail, if say so myself. I've got a 55" HD LED Samsung in my frontroom, and i've got a 46" HD LED Samsung in my bedroom and my l'lady and i put it to good use especially now that the winter is coming. Beleive or not the ol'lady was complaining about a little scratch on the back of TV which u probably need a magnify glass to see it, she called them up and bitched about it and they gave her a Samsung BlueRay DVD Player, so we made off like the Bandids.:yes:

Not to hijack,
But what Hrz 120/240?

I have been looking at the Sami LED's the 240 Hrz look great

I just bought my daughter a 25" Sami LCD 1080P 60 Hrz. I was comparing it to others there at Best Buy & the closest I thought in clarity was the Insignia 22" LED 1080 60Hz. It had a 2500:1 Contrast Ratio while the Sami has 50,000:1. The Sami was noticeably clearer...Sure there were better but I didn't want to go over a 25"

between family and friends I know of 8 out of 11 mobos replaced
and they all happened within 3 months of purchase
by the way majority were under 42" but doesn't change the fact they have a problem

by the way majority were under 42" but doesn't change the fact they have a problemBut are all the motherboards in those tv's the same then?Eg I find it hard to believe that a mobo from a 55" 3D LED Samsung is the same as a 42" LCD Samsung. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sure they're from same manufacturer

I'm sure they're from same manufacturerBut that doesn't say that they are all bad does it? Eg if Mercedes calls back a certain model because of power steering problems, that doesn't mean all Mercedes's are bad, although they probably use the same manufacturer for all models power steering units?

Sorry if I drag this but I recommended the Samsung TV I own to the topic starter, and I would feel bad if I recommended a bad product to hem/her.

I wouldnt use the mercedes analogy.. Lately a lot of high end brands like mercedes have about a 50% substandard rating on the individual models.. And These manufacturers source the parts for their model lineup from the same sources..
Never base your self on the setups in the stores. The individual tv,s are connected diferently some on hdmi some on svhs some on component and of various qualities..
Samsung does have a decent screen and no bleeding or low bleeding between a black and white color chart..
Personaly i'm on sony xbr's ..

Right now I do believe Sami's have the highest all around rating, so how you can say they're garbage doesn't make sense, to me anyway.

Maybe if you elaborated a little more people might have an idea.

I've already posted why
here's a better example though
my ma's tv went thru 3 repairs and so far so good
but tv has been in shop more than her home
IMO I suspect the price is the main factor in why they have a high rating

As for the TV's, it's I think also a very personal choice I have a Sony 46 Bravia LCD in my bedroom and I have to say, although I'm a huge Sony fan (typing this on a VAIO) imo it can't compare withe the Samsung in my living room, but again it's very personal I think.

I'll admit, with my purchases I was certainly looking at the price, but also which had the best pic. IMO Sony had the best, & to me Sami/LG where right there with each other.

I don't know about your area, but Dynex is about the cheapest down here in lower MO, & honestly they also look to have a decent pic, but I have always wanted to stay away from the lower end. One thing that might help in the future is a site called epinions.com...I also like Cnet, & Tomshardware.

It's unfortunate about your mama's TV...That's 3 repairs too many.

My first flat screen was a Philips 37". I bought the 3 year extended warranty from Circuit City. My set went out in 32 months. The gave me a store credit of all but $200 I added another $400 & bought my first Samsung Plasma. My sister & brother in law were so impressed when they came for a visit they went shopping for a set. I was surprised to find they they bought the upgraded version of mine.

But as far as recommending Philips again, I'm not gonna do it, so I guess I can see how you would side against Samsung

It only covers certain aspects of the total image quality.. Load a dvd with a color chart and grey scale then do the comparisons.. The cnet reviews are the reviewers opinion and not based on quantitative data..

One way to determine picture quality is to see what the broadcasters use as monitors in the studio.. Those are usualy the best picture quality and color accuracy money can buy..
