Draining the water out of a GE Fridge

I have a GE Side by Side fridge in my inlaws cottage. The problem I am having is that I am told it has a large water storage capacity for its water cooler. The cottage is a summer use only and the water lines have to be winterized every year to prevent freezing. I am thinking there will be a lot of damage to this fridge caused by the water freezing if I dont get it drained. Any input would be great.
