After what can only be described as a lackluster performance in the octagon, James Toney’s 3 minutes and 16 seconds of MMA fame caught the attention of one UFC veteran. Hoping to continue the dull and outdated debate of who wins when a boxer meets a mixed martial artist, Vitor Belfort wants a shot at the IBA and NABO heavyweight champion.

Posting on his tweeter account, “The Phenom” claims to be willing to put on the more heavily padded and cushioned boxing gloves and take on Toney at his own game:

"Dana let me fight James Toney on 6 round box[ing] match I think I can catch him with my speed.
Dana [it] will be the 1 boxing match in UFC I promise he will fell my power and we will show the world [that] a UFC fighter can do better”.

While Mr. White has not yet responded, a possible match-up does not seem to be in the near future. Toney has claimed he will defend his boxing championships before the calendar turns to 2011 and Belfort is scheduled to meet Yushin Okami at UFC 122.

Hopefully, Zuffa turns their back on this request and focuses on what they do best, MMA.
