help opening download files

hi folks i really need help opening files i downloaded. i can see the files in the download box but just cannot open it

as torpainter asked they can be archive files like zip or rar or 7zip.

they can also be avi depending on if you downloaded a movie...

Check your anti virus program to make sure that it's not blocking. .exe is the most dangerous to your computer.

Files with the exe extension are executable files. They should run when you right click on them and select run or after you click ok on the popup warning about executable files. It's possible that you've lost the file association. You may be able to fix that with this if you have vista.

rigth click the exe file go to properties then u will see in the bottom rigth hand corner of the properties it says unblock press that click apply all done! it will now open

I am using window 7 with firefox as my browser when i clicked on download it goes into a download folder that i can retrive from tools icon on firefox broswer.
nothing happens when i left click right clicking gives me the following options;open;open container folder;go to download page;copy download link;select all;remove from list

Select the "open container folder" option, that will open a new window with the files on there, then right over that window you can just double click and it must run...

IF NOTHING happens when u left click then it is more than likely a security setting,

What is the full name of the file and where was it downloaded from?

Right click on it and scan it with your antivirus and/or malware program.
