SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Matt Kuchar has extended his PGA Championship lead during the fog-delayed second round at Whistling Straits.
Kuchar, who completed a 5 under par 67 earlier Friday morning, followed that up with a 69 in the second round to grab the clubhouse lead at 8 under.
Fog delayed the start of play Friday for 2 hours, 40 minutes. Combined with Thursday 3 hour, 10 minute delay, half the field will not finish their second rounds on Friday -- including Tiger Woods, who opened with a 71 on Thursday morning.
Kuchar, the 1997 U.S. Amateur champ who has surged into the top 10 on the PGA Tour in recent months, finished his second round about 90 minutes before Woods teed off. He made five birdies and only one bogey in 22 holes on Friday.
Kuchar had never finished higher than 48th as a professional in a major before this year. But after winning his first PGA Tour event since 2002 at Turning Stone last fall, he tied for 25th in the Masters, tied for sixth at the U.S. Open and tied for 27th at the Open Championship at St. Andrews.
Kuchar's 67 was his lowest-ever round in a major championship.
