Humans are omnivores, meaning they are anatomically and physiologically adapted to eat both plants and animals. Here are some reasons why:
Teeth: Humans have incisors and canines for biting, tearing, and ripping, like carnivores, and molars for chewing, like herbivores.
Digestive tract: The human digestive tract is evolved for omnivory, not a plant-based diet.
Diet: Humans need vitamin B12, which comes from animal sources or certain bacteria, and vitamin C, which is found in citrus fruits and organ meat.
Closest evolutionary relatives: Humans' closest evolutionary relatives, chimpanzees, are also omnivores.
Other characteristics: Humans have powerful livers, a strong sense of smell, and a digestive tract that is over eight times longer than their torso.
