Any idea as to why I keep loosing my connection on my hard drive? I have a factory installed hard drive in my 4900 and I constantly have to remove and reinstall it to use it.

is hard drive properly attached and secure? I mean not loose right
try to reformat and see if that helps.
do you have spare hard drive to test and see if its not the drive going bad?

If it's an SATA type drive (thin cable from mother board to drive) then try a new cable, they do go bad as there the cheapest ones they can buy.

The drive connected to SATA connector directly on the units main board, that is located on the underside (like on the U5).

Some mechanical drives will generate too much heat. As they get older, the bearings create more friction which makes them run hotter and can potentially fail in the enclosed environment. I installed small SSD drives instead and have not had issues since then.

But as Ryu mentioned, the drive could also be failing.

And I do not recall ever having "factory installed" drives. There were bundles often sold with drives, but they were never pre-installed as far as I recall (at least not by Buzz).

I have to take drive out and reinsert it then it works. It did come preinstalled and works properly after reinsertion. I don't record very often but get a time shift warning which goes away after reinsertion.

Sometimes when we say the drive is failing, it could be some small component on the PCB. And sometimes just unplugging and plugging it back in will get it to work for a little while again. On one of my 2 xrs4900 units, my old mechanical drive was doing exactly that. Replaced it with a small 120GB SSD I had lying around (since I don't record much either and 120GB is plenty for this, and useless for much other uses). Have not had the issue since then.

What brand of SSD hard drive is recommended?

Western Digital seems to be one of the drives most compatible, Personally I would stay away from Sea-gate Drives

There are others as well (drives) that work well too.

What brand of SSD hard drive is recommended?

I have an old Intel SSD in one of my 4900, a Micron unit in my other 4900, and an Kingston KC600 series one in my U5.

Pretty much anything should work. If you buy a no-name brand like Adata or whatever ever else is sold nowadays, the worst that can happen is that it fails and needs to be replaced (and yes, you lose everything you had recorded).

If you stick to the bigger names, Sandisk, Kingston, Samsung, WD, etc.. you should be fine. Keep in mind it is standard 2.5" SATA versions you need, NOT the M.2 or Nvme versions.
