Got word from another site that History and Bio channels are not on AMC 4. I moved my bud over and blind scanned, they're gone. I know that sat is about to be replaced, all other channels are still there.

TP for those channels is reported as still being there but very weak signal. My pansat is glitching between 0-26% but mostly on the 0. As dishuser pointed out, these channels are for Hotels across North America for their client- nothing to do with dn.

Nice to know, but I wish I read this before I spent an hour trying to tweak my dish to get those channels. (I screwed it up so badly I only get 97 now. )
:(
I wonder where the hotels get the channels now?

Getting history and bio at 39% this morning with a viewsat extreme and a 30inch dish here in the Vancouver area.
stronger signal today on amc 4 watchin history rite now, 72w signal dropped for some reason

Both channels up here at 62% signal quality.

They're starting to fade out again, I just lost 17% quality in the last half hour.

AMC4 has nothing to do with DN
that may be true but , there could be a relationship between dn and The Hotel Networks ? which takes up all of tp 12060 which is sucking more right now. the rest of amc 4 seems normal even if its supposed to come down soon.
And since dn put the last nail in N2 and then ion, nasa, hd theatre, etc.
and even if dn had nothing to do with 123 biting da dust...
I think its okay to generalize about dn the way timetripper did!
because dn sucks! :yeaah::tehe::tehe::tehe:

Dn is part of the monopolies controlling the air ways here in NA. In Europe there are thousands of open fta channels. no need for a sub. Finally, dn and others are companies trying to make money, so by us watching open channels doesn't put money in their coffers.
yesterday @6 am Q=~56%
yesterday @ 5pm q=~20%
last night ~11pm q=60%
this morning q=56%
it looks that the transition to the new sat is going on right direction!?!

Could it be a case of sunfade on a weak sat?
Ime's findings that the signal is 'strong at night and early morning' and then 'weak in the afternoon' sounds like it could be sunfade, could be its also been injured by all the solar activity this year.
The solar activity is believed to be what sent Galaxy 15 rouge recently, its still transmitting but is drifting slowly and won't respond to signals to go back into position.

It probably is sunfade. This has been ongoing with this tp since last summer.

Damn.. just as I've set up my new ku FTA kit (new motor, 33" dish and Invacom dual band LNB), this happens! :(
Is there any word as to where these channels might move? I'd be real nice to be able to get them again. Thanks!

They are both still running sporaticly - mostly when the sun is down as the TP is suffering from sunfade.
There has been a real vaccuum of info on the "Hotel Networks" that this History & Bio is part of a package to hotels, etc.
I kind of figured if one could find out where the other Hotel Networks channels from 101W were relocating too then you might find the "in the clear" H+B but nada sniff.
The only thing interesting I found was that there is a new sat being put into service at this location [101W].
c/p from other forum:
AMC-4 and AMC-2 are beeing replaced by SES-1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I dug up on this story and found that AMC-4 and AMC-2 are being replaced by SES-1. So other forums claims that channels will be moved to this new satellite, but I didn't find any evidence of those claims. SES-1 however will be at 101°W, same as AMC-4.
Here is the link to the replacement schedule at SES WorldSkies:
SES Worldskies
Quote:
“SES”: The New Generation
Beginning in 2010, SES WORLD SKIES will name all new additions to its fleet with an “SES” prefix. SES-1 will be the first in the family of “SES” satellites, replacing AMC-2 and AMC-4 in the 101º West orbital slot in the first half of the year.
Here is a link to Orbital that describe the contract:
Orbital
Quote:
SES-1, -2 & -3
The SES-1, -2 & -3 satellites are being built for SES WORLD SKIES under a contract for up to five virtually identical satellites. The spacecraft are hybrid C- and Ku-band spacecraft that will serve the Continental United States and portions of the Caribbean, and will replace satellites currently in orbit.
Also I found it interesting that AMC 4 is dying prematurely - solar panels going bad.
Launched in 1999 with a projected 25 yr lifespan, so 11yrs old and going kaput has got to be pretty disapointing to some CEO's :(

All channels will probably stay at the same orbital position. I don't hotels across NA have motorised dishes, would be something if they all had to re-install their stationary dishes.
AMC 1 is also suffering the same fate and being replaced this year, I've noticed many tp that have signal fade here as well.

I have noticed that bio seems to be a little higher on the S/Q in the last day or so, I could even watch it in the daylight hours today.
Maybe the last huura? :D

Yes, same here in SK. Signal is stronger now than it ever was.
I'm confused.

Both History and Bio are still up and functioning as of this morning.
Still life in the bird :yeaah:
I think since some of the TP's have relocated to new sats that
this has reduced the elec. load on the sat so the ones left are functioning better.

I haven't noticed any missing channels on this sat. My signal quality for both channels is between 87-92%.
