Was the best stb in its' day.Still very good for watching south,if you can find a service that doesn't suck.Works on north, but strange framerates/choppiness plague the video quality.

I am still using Mine on north, and have none of the strange choppiness or bad video quality
Mind you my SV8000 is hooked up by Component and to a Non-HD TV, so the Video quality is plenty for my use
May not be for other users trying it on a 4k or HD TV.

They don't do hdtv well though Auggie, which is mainstream now.

Most channels on North are STILL Broadcast at 480p, at best 720p, a handful on 82 are 1080p
For my viewing the SV8000 Serves what I need, but may not for others that want/need HD.
The old saying TO-EACH-HIS-OWN.

You didn't specify north or south service.I won't recommend a south provider, but some will. The SV still works very good for SD south.

They will do a substandard hd image when using component video cabling resolution set at 720p,but still stutter.I had more than a dozen out there prior to the end of hd south providers. The group all prefer the the DL's now,& rightfully so.It's important to note that many tvs' don't have that connectivity anymore.I won't encourage anyone to use them for north hd.

I know this is old thread. But I got an idea, it's a long shot but nothing to lose, to (try) to fix the 720p studding on North.

Might take me a while but I will post back, been meaning to try this for a while.

Hi Jets. Were you able to get the 720p studding picture fixed?

No our experiment did not work. The idea was to change the clock frequency of the CPU up or down. But it seems the timing is handled inside the chip and limited data is available on the CPU chip.

Was worth a try. Someone did the actual testing and if possible I will credit them.

Credit goes to intelpenny4, he was the one who tried the various crystal on the main board. The result was the unit would not boot at any crystal other than the 30MHz stock crystal.

If someone else want to try and test changing the crystal in the 8PSK up a few MHz it's possible it might stop the shuddering of the video?
