Hello everyone I'm back.
IKS is almost dead and hard to keep a box running. They finally ran a fiber optic out my way in the boonies. YEA!!! 6 years with Satellite internet (sucks) and $$$$$. Now turn me loose HA!! . Guys I started testing way back in the big dish days. Jtag chips , burning cards you name it. AND yes I'm getting old. I wish I could live 20 more years just to see where all this is going. WOW!! I envy you young people.
I want to learn all I can before I'm gone so, I'll ask you to HELP ME. Has been a great hobby. I used to be a HAM radio operator as well. We built computers to track our satellites so we could communicate with someone we never met. They tracked the sats so we could use them to bounce signals. ( Called BOLA back then) This was in the day of Commadore 64 and Vic 32 computers. ( DOS commands) I still build some for friends and wow the stuff changes almost over night.
So, please let me look and listen and ask questions.
Thank You so much . what a wonderful group. KEEP it up !!

I remember them.
I also remember many years before small dish stuff was available I was using my 10 foot BUD with a General Instrument 2700 IRD with a modified videocipher descrambler. Those were great TV days - before video went digital.

Came a long way since then. Amazing at the changes and tech advancements. I hope I live another 20 yrs. just to see what's next.
Big Dish ticked me off when they started charging for it and all the adds too. Then they add all those extra sats just to make it harder for us. Change the channel move the dish. Covered my old 10ft. in plastic and made a fish pond out of it. I built a DTV antenna and put it on and old dish and man can you get a lot of local over the air channels. Heck of a reflector.

No cell phones either.
Hey welcome! Once a HAM always a HAM, I say.
Still waiting for faster 'net out here in the boonies myself. Cant wait till the day the pixies come pouring out of the RG.
Which is why I hope iks will live for a bit.
For the ones with a bud still, get a linux receiver, a new lnb, and whatever you need to move it.
You'll be amazed at the changes. Almost forgot I had my p$ the past few months.
Coming from the days of milled epoxy and piggy back socketed eeproms and 1-900-hotshot.
Consider getting a VPN. Like a bible and a gun. You may never need it, but it's sureeee nice if you ever do.
Welcome! lol.

VPN , I am finding out somethings don't work with VPN. Was going to put VPN on my router but now going with each device instead.
EPROM haven't heard that name in a while. We used to burn a program on an EPROM and put it on a game card for Commodore 64 and instant load the program. Word Processor or Spreadsheet etc. Even had a few game son some. INSTANT loading way back then. One day I asked a friend of mine " why aren't they using soild state drives?? (EPROM) duh!! well dang if they didn't come out with them. Read my mind.

Yup. One thing VPN will add is anonymity to your new found things you can do with high speed 'net.
Especially if your ISP is one of those who loves to hand out copyright violation notices. Hmmmmm.
Bore right through them and open up yahoo and it's in svensk. Bjorken der Sporken. lol.
Things you can do with high speed 'net you never thought of before.
