My mom said when i was 14, you'll be judged by the company you keep.

Of coarse it was ignored at the time but figured that one out later.

Many others come to mind but now that I'm older this one is more prevalent than some others. Once again, when i was around 14 mom said, time goes by a lot quicker than you think. Of coarse once again i thought nothing of it because life is immortal at 14.lol

Feel free to share your parents best......

Rough start, most of us had the same.

Maybe not the shotgun to the face, you likely deserved it.lol

Most have probably heard this one before: I am the S.O.B. that brought you into this World, and can Take you "OUT" as well.
That's the one that stuck with me.

its not a parent statement but my first (real) boss .At the age of 15 I went to the local lumbar yard/building supply as they were hiring for the summer. I went to the main counter and asked for a application . I was given one and then I asked for a pen . The man (Bud Burgess) turned to me and said , "let me get this straight you want me your future employer to supply you with a pen to" . Ever since then I always carried my own pen to anything important and when handed one I made a point to hand it back saying I have my own thanks.

Funny how little things stick with you .

"Son I aint gonna be here on this side of the dirt forever to keep you from going to jail, hell I oughtta just kick you ass and be done with it"

True story, I was probably 12, kids followed me home from school, caught me without any backup, schoolyard beef, anyone I got jumped and got the ever loving **** kicked out of me, came home, swollen eyes, bloody nose, Pa says, well ****, aint ya got any balls? You need friends to keep your self together, lets go. Off we went, down the block, he made me fight the fokkers once again, on my own again, I did better, and no one fokked with me anymore after that, and I never really needed any backup after that, lol, miss him even if a mean and nasty SOB,

Guess around 13 or so my father told me...don't start it and you won't know what it is. Seeing he had four vices cigs, cigars, chewing tobacco and beer he was coming from experience. I Had a light short stint with beer between the age of 18 and 25 and then I gave it up. That was about 31 yrs ago and one of the smartest things I ever did. Sadly it took about 35 yrs to finally kick the smoking habit which was around 6 yrs ago. Now that I've quit I just can't understand what I started smoking for to begin with. Didn't make a lot of since when he told me at 13 but years later it became all to clear. Don't start it and you want know what it is or miss it. Not to mention the h^ll of quiting or giving it up. Not sure if I can say starting both were the stupidest things I have ever did in my life but they rate up there pretty d**n close.

When I was young and earned my first money my father told me, "put it in the bank while you are still young", (as he explained the miracle of compound interest).

Sure wish I had listened...

I remember my mother telling me, "a boys bedroom is not the place to entertain young ladies".

She was wrong.... ;)

Same lesson told to me from my Grandmother. Imagine your saint of a Grandmother calling your 14 year old girlfriend a slut.....right in front her. I'll never forget that one.lol

There were six of us growing up 4 boys 2 girls. Dad handled the boys Mom the girls. Whenever something serious when amiss in the house we would get lined up and ask "who did it". Each one of use would reply "not me" at the end of the line, Dad would say: "yea your brother Notme did it again, where is he anyway".

Most times Dad would continue his interrogation until we broke down and one confessed. He would then say "this will hurt me more than does you".

Bless his sole, his discipline is probably the reason I am alive today.
