Hi all,

I've set up about 20 buzz basics in the last month and all had android 7 installed. I just bought another 10 and they all have android 6. Probably an older batch?

Any idea if these will get the update to android 7? Only reason is that I love the new buzztv2 update which I don't think we get on android 6. Thanks for any info!

the units with 6 are newer than 7 and will not be getting updated to 7
app update has nothing to do with android version

Good to know...I assumed I had an older batch of boxes but I forgot they were shipping with android 6 now.

So you purchased 10 buzz units without checking which Android version was installed??? Wow!

Same supplier so I had no reason to check which android version. I assumed android 7 like the last couple of batches I bought. I can just return them if I need to anyways ;)

I thought the buzz apk update was related to the android version. Now that I know it's not I don't really are which android version is on them lol. These boxes are for customers who I instruct to only use the buzz app for IPTV anyways. If they want to install other apps I give them a different box.

Still....... you must check what you purchase.

yeah right. That isn't always possible lol.

How does someone check if they buy from amazon or online?

On a similar note...my android 7 boxes I like the option to define the power key to shutdown vs standby. I don't think that option is there for android 6 as I can't find it.

Is it not there for android 6?

press and hold the power button should be 3 options

Thanks but I'm talking about being to define the power button to do one of those 3 options. I like to set mine to power off.

Doesn't mean much. I ordered a 4 pack of buzz basics from Amazon yesterday and they arrived today. The product description stated android 7 but they were all on Android 6.

false advertising

How would these retailers/buyers know if the boxes they are selling/buying as the packaging says android 7? Can we tell by the serial number on the box?

Because they buy from a supplier, and the buyer must check what they are buying as I mentioned earlier. But it could be false advertising or a genuine mistake but I'm sure it was a third party seller you bought from. So you made two recent purchases and got something different to what you were expecting? Lol, that's some bad luck bro

Not sure about android 6, but with 7 there is an option in Apps, called Droid settings. Look for power button definition I think it is, you can set power button to sleep, standby or power off.

The last 20 or so boxes I've purchased say Android 7.1 on the packaging...not a big deal for me as I only have 3 left of this last batch...

http://i67.tinypic.com/op0fgh.jpg

But my OP was based on the thought that the buzztv2 update was for android 7 boxes only...if/when the apk update comes to android 6 boxes then doesn't matter what android version is on the box. I know android 6 works better anyways with the box.

maybe if they want to use up old boxes they should put a sticker over the 7.1

Well, a few days ago it was an issue for you so you should see if it has been fixed, unless it was just the imagination playing games

For me it was not fixed.. I was curious, and I tried it once.. And 4 hours later when I brought it out of sleep, and went into LiveTV it was freezing like crazy. Rebooted box and it was fine.

So I put it back to power down for powerkey definition. May have just been a conincidence, but the extra minute for boot up is not really a huge issue, and always know it is a clean boot.

I never had an issue with the box waking out of sleep. My original post was about android 6 boxes getting the android 7 update. I talked about defining the power key to shutdown which I can't do with android 6 but I never said anything about having issues with it going into sleep. I know others have issues though.

I confirmed with my supplier that buzz had taken all their shipments of pandas with android 7 back and downgraded them to 6. They simply kept the original packaging.

For sure. But newer shipments of android 6 aren't supposed to updated to Android 7. That's the reason I mentioned the update on my friends box.

I would lean towards a box not being reflashed to android 6 than one being updated to 7
I dont believe the os 7 update is even on the server but will confirm

Thanks! His box is possessed I think. He's locked one of his subs 3 times just by restarting the box. He's telling me after the update to android 7 there's only 2 gigs of storage left. Weird.

I think you need to get the unit in your hands to see what is on it because he is "all over the place" on this one.

why would they bother to reflash all those boxes only to send OS update?
I call bull on that happening
I think his friend is confused

yeah, I'm thinking of picking it up from him this week and looking at it myself.

I still think it's something he's done on his end or he's confused...either way I know I gave him an android 6 box and he sent me pics of his box now on android 7.

What video player are most people using on these buzz boxes? I find if I use the internal player the video it is much smoother on the hd sports channels for nba or nhl but using the default player it stutters/skips a little. The only problem using the internal or secondary player is the video does go black screen after a while but changing the channel up or down brings it back again and smooth sailing once again.

I am using android version 7.1.2.

Also, maybe you thought you gave him a unit with OS 6 but it was in fact OS 7. Could that be a possibility?

Sometimes it's best to create your own thread with the unit issues you are having, especially when it is a totally different issue to the one in the thread you posted in. Just remember that in future

Different players seems to work differently on different services. So you must stick to what works for you as a user. Default and secondary players seems to be the top choices.

Yeah, 100% OS 6 as that's the first question he asked me when he started up the box. All the pics show is an update icon and then another pic showing OS7.

Anyways, he's happier with the update...his box is more responsive so he says.
