I want to use a Dishnet Receiver up North from someone down South.I haven't asked them yet but I might after getting the answers I need. These are my questions?
As far as I know they have the Hopper/Joey and perhaps another receiver or two.Could they activate a simple(doesn't even have to be HD)Receiver that I could bring back North. What model would I need to look into? How many Receivers can they activate on an account?Does Dish check accounts on Receiver id whereabouts?
Thanks

I know for a fact DN has done location i.d. checks in the past when account sharing was popular:can't say for sure now.If the account holder has only 2 or 3 irds on his account, I think you have a good chance of flying under the radar.Accounts with more irds may be more suspect.Cordinated phone calls are 1 way around the check anyways.

Thanx,
I know Dish replaced the old 301's for something else. Will look into it.

You can get a 311 - that's the replacement for the 301.
They don't bother you with location ID verification with 4 receivers - but after 4 they may call and do a location ID check.
It is pretty hard to cheat on those tests - you must have a portable phone and move from room to room uninterrupted and they don't want you talking to anyone during the audit. They are aware how guys doing account sharing use cell phones from different homes to relay the location ID to the guy on the phone with Dishnet. That location ID showing on the TV screen is not static - it changes during the audit and if they expect any hanky panky going on they will delete all receivers on the account except one until you can prove to them that all receivers are in the same residence.
They can also ask for a copy of a utility bill to verify the name and address matches that on the Dishnet account.

The loc I’d is easily defeated.
It has nothing to do with location. It is based on R00 number and signal hash.
You can take an old 2700 and flash it with the same ird R00 Numbers as the receiver you want to fake.
It doesn’t need the same box keys or same card , in fact it doesn’t need a card in it and it will produce the correct loc Id no matter where it is.
This is all according to my old neighbour.

Agreed...but we're talking shared sub with subbed irds aren't we, rather than hacked irds??

Yes that will work - but if you have 6 receivers on an account - you will need 6 old 2700 receivers and flash the R00 IRD number of the subbed receivers to the jTagged receivers.
You also better know the Software version of each receiver, the check switch info and so on that is showing on the different subscribed receivers. They just don't ask for the location ID for each receiver - they can and do ask for other info on the receiver.
It takes some planning - but it can be done.
A lot of guys just use the conference call method to relay the info to the guy talking to Dishnet - you better do some pre-audit training to the guys relaying the info - it can get pretty hectic trying to coach the different guys while you are on the phone with Dishnet. If you try to mute the phone or put Dishnet on hold - they'll knock you down to one receiver.

Had a friend in upstate NY that got away with it twice:if DN calls & you're not prepared, don't answer.Call the involved parties asap & have them stand by with cell phones & landlines.WHEN they call back (& they will) have all sharers on speed dial ready at the info sys screen. If all parties are not able to coordinate, don't answer until they are.

P.S...I would never mod a subbed ird.
I have had several location ID phone calls and they are not easy. You are correct - you can postpone the audit until you think you are ready - but when you think you are ready and get on the phone...

@Jedi>
A little thread drift here but, Thanks for your posts , rarely does anyone speak about how the gears work, reminds my Plummer of days past when the hobby was...just that a hobby!
Without giving up anymore Easter eggs, YES ....
The way the iks is headed a guy might want to start stacking to save a buck.
Keep em rolling,

You don't have to modify your subbed IRD - you just need the R00 number from it and then flash that number to an old 2700/3700/4700/301/501 receiver that you have jTagged.
That jTagged receiver will give the exact same location ID as your subbed receiver just by cloning the IRD number.

does location id calculator not work anymore?
does location id calculator not work anymore?
I'm pretty sure it doesn't DU. They use some sort of algorithm that nobody has been able to calculate as far as I know. I think they use to be able to do it a long time ago - but I never used that calculator.
If it was still working I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it - that would make life a little easier - not a lot of normal account sharers know how to jTag a receiver and flash it with a new IRD number - but the calculator would be easier for them.
It's not a big problem for dealers that want to sell account sharing - but it takes some planning.
