Odds are that you have a 'dirty' remote. The fix is usually to take the remote apart and clean between the circuit board pads and the conductive buttons that are on the rubber keys. You have to be careful when you pop the remote plastic covers apart!

You could test by using your PC to send IR signals to box, or use a camera to see the infra-red that the remote puts out and if they are not being sent when a button is pushed--web camera works just fine for the last.

If the box is new, then odds are that they sent an incorrect remote and you should return it, or there is a button on the remote that you need to press to get the remote working right, or the buttons that you think are not working are not intended to work the box but are for TV functions or other box's functions. I have a number of remotes that have UP DOWN arrows and CH UP and CH DOWN functions that do not do the same thing when pressed--the UP and DOWN arrows are for menu navigation, LEFT and RIGHT do not do Volume--I can't say that is true for DL boxes, but it would not surprise me. If the remote does give you some box control at all odds are that it is the right remote for the box and you just are not using it right.

BTW, there is a jp1 remote file for the DL HD box that might give you clues of button signals. You can use a PC's audio recording feature to capture IR signals with a simple light detector (like a photocell from a cheap lawn light or (better) a photo diode). There are cheap remote control gizmos for phones now if your phone has audio jack.

If you have an android phone, DL an app called Anymote. All buttons and functions for the Dreamlink work. Lots of other smart remote apps work as well. That will get you thru until you get a jp1.

Go to the settings and add a remote. Go to the set top box section and type in Dreamlink. Save it, and away you go. I have tried it with my garage doors, TVs,Sv8000, NfusionHD, DreamlinkT5,,etc.... It works for everything.

As far as I know, remotes are typically one-time-programmable chip based because they are cheaper. So, what is in the remote now is what you have forever. JP1 remotes are re-programmable from a PC. And phones apps can be given lots of diff remote codes. But the ones that come with most TVs and Sat boxes have limited fixed programming inside.

If you read the manual it will tell you have the remote can do.
