I need some help to identify a new problem I have been having.

I have had flawless reception for a number of years with the SV8000 connected to a Diseqc switch connected in the following manner:

Port 1: 82
Port 2: 91
Port 3: 110
Port 4: 119

as of a few days ago I have been encounter a problem switching from 1 Port to another. when all the ports have LNB power on I get sat 82 on all ports.

When I turn off sat 82 1nd 91 I am able to get 110 and 119 back n their respective ports after a hard reboot. I cannot turn on LNB power on 82 or 91 otherwise I do not get 110 and 119.

I have 2 different machines and the same occurs on both.

Can anyone let me know if they have encountered this before and if this a Diseqc switch or LNB issue?

are you running both svs? with two diseqs?

I only have 1 diseqc switch. It does the same if I replace one box for the other

you could test each lnb directly to the rcvr and if all work well then replace the diseq
I would also check all cables for corrosion too while there

I'll have to wait till the spring time to do that. I can't get a ladder there until the snow melts.
Could the power supplies on both machines be faulty and not sending enough power to the LNBs?

If so which capacitors feed the LNB power?

Youll have to wait for someone who knows the sv for help with that

Capacitors do not feed power, all they do is filter out any AC ripple on the DC power supply.

Now, if your using a standard Diseqc switch with a single receiver and single satellite LNB's (one LNB per satellite) on each switch input port, then your fine on DC power as the switch will only run one LNB at a time.

If you have a DP twin type LNB on each satellite pair (82/91, 110/119) then you may have a small problem with the 22 Khz Diseqc commands bleeding over to the other LNB, this can be caused by corrosion on the ground connection at the switch, or faulty coax connections due to water intrusion at the outside connectors.

Or if your using a multi switch** for more then one receiver then it could be a DC power problem.

A bit more info on your setup would help us greatly as without that info we are using our crystal balls.

** A multi switch will power all attached LNB's at the same time, this so you can switch to any attached LNB to any attached receiver independently.

1. Type/make of LNB's used.
2. Type/make of switch used.
3. Is the system grounded?

cant give u the answer on the switch nor the LNB. I would need to go up on the pole to provide the identification you are asking for.

you either have 4 single lnbs or two large lnbs

Can't you see the LNB's from the ground and are you using one dish or two?

i've had these boxes for years and wouldn't trade mine for anything they are the best box ever had but the problem from what i've found is the bell sats use more power or something, i know exactly what you mean it happens alot what i found out worked was going into the menu and if you are on dish turn the lnb off and on this usually works. if i were you this is how i set it up through the switch is always use the higher sat on the lower switch setting. so for you 119-1, 110-2, 91-3 and 82-4 i've never had a problem after i did that.

If you are going with a diseqc switch, make sure it is a GOOD Quality one

Every time I have had the problem you described it has been the switch. They don't last forever, especially if they're outside unprotected from the weather.

It is probably the switch. I have changed switches around 5 times in 13 years of doing FTA.

thanks to all for your suggestions. I will start by going out and buying a new Diseqc switch, Anyone have a suggestion on a Brand?

Buy two cheap ones rather than one expensive one so you have a way to test sws. As to brand--I don't think it matters.
