When it was announced two weeks ago that Danny Garcia would fight Samuel Vargas, most boxing observers chuckled at the ridiculousness of the matchup and shook their heads at the thought of a world-class fighter like Garcia stooping to take on a no-hoper like Vargas.
But on Tuesday, when Showtime announced that Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) would fight Keith Thurman next March, the boxing pundits weren’t laughing. Instead, they were applauding the fact Garcia – the former junior welterweight championship who now holds a welterweight belt — finally is taking a chance and fighting a boxer of Thurman’s caliber.
Looks like a super matchup... can't wait..
