The recent forceful flow of market research continues: Informa Telecoms &
Media, which last week played host to the IPTV World Forum in London, has
issued a new report on HDTV acceptance.
Always a bigger phenomenon by reputation rather than by actual adoption,
HDTV penetration remained just below 6 percent of consumer housholds
worldwide at the end of last year, but viewership is likely to increase to
almost 8 percent by the end of this year, and 21 percent by 2014,
according to a post at IPTV News.
In numbers of households, that forecast would mean HDTV signals being
received in about 276 million homes in 2014. North America accounts for
about two-thirds of this year's market penetration.
HDTV prices have steadily fallen in recent years, while the number of HD
channels have soared and more service providers have started to offer HD
packages.
