The great Bobby Chacon has left us.. Bobby, known as "Schoolboy"
passed away yesterday from a fall he took in a nursing home.
Bobby suffered from blows to the head which in turned caused boxers "dementia".
He actually lost his license while still active in the ring.. he could barely speak at
that time..
He rates high on my top fights of all time when he fought Boza-Edwards in a rematch after
losing the first bout.. he fought with a huge gash over his almost closed eye..
Still gave Boza a pounding.. knocking him down 3 times.
Among his victories were Ruben Olivares, Danny "Little Red" Lopez, Bazooka Limon and
of course Boza Edwards.. AND someone we all know.. he beat Freddie Roach.
Bobby's record was 59-7-1..
Todays fighters should learn from this great boxer of the past.. he took on all of the
greatest at that time.. even the great Arquello..
The last time I saw him being interviewed on tv you could hardly understand what he
was saying.. ala Tommy Hearns.. but Bobby suffered severe brain damage and was put
in a home.. been there for over 20 years.. wife says he just stared at the walls. Could not
speak anymore. Pretty much like Ali.
Death brought peace to this great fighters life.
RIP Bobby. In my book you were one of the greatest!
