new problem

when i shut the computer down the next time i turn it back on i cant get on the internet . we have dsl any ideas how to fix . im catching heck from my wife because she has to use it for her job . thanks as always gp

Moved here for PC discussions...Try checking your internet connections and assure that Work Offline isn't checked

Tower or laptop?
Are you wireless or lan lined to your Dsl modem?
Do you have a router?

Try this.
Press your start button and select run to bring up your run box.
type in cmd and press ok

In the black window that pops up type in
ping www.google.ca

Do you get a reply back or does it say request timed out over and over?

If you "do" get a reply back then go to your internet explorer settings and under connection - lan make sure that only automatic is checked on.
If you have "use proxy" checked even though nothing is filled in then that is your problem.

If you "don't" get a reply back as in request timed out.
Then ill need you to post me more about your set-up.

Sometimes it is just the home page giving you an error message but if you pick a site from your favorites or manually enter one like yahoo.com, it will take you to the other websites. Without knowing further details on the error message you get, it is hard to figure out what is causing it.
