View Full Version : 18 inch dish for 110-119 can I use this for 129
I found all kinds of receiver threads and I looked for anywhere else this should be posted so if I am in the wrong place my apologies ahead of time.
What I want to do is point to 129 with my 18 inch dish usually for 110-119. If I can which lnb do I point for 129 and can I get another sat with the other lnb?
I am trying to hit the HD sat and this is the first time I am trying this I don't have a multi lnb that would solve a lot of my probs but am just trying to wing it here so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Again if in wrong section please move it to proper place I just don't know where that is plus I fgured where this is the newbie section it might help someone else thinking of doing what I am trying to do.

Well in some places you can use an 18" dish for 129W, but 129 has a funny footprint, on the west coast you can use an 18", but 150 miles inland we need to use at least a 30", in some places in Florida you can use a 10".
This because of nulls and voids in the footprint for 129.
If you go to the link below you can zoom into your location on the active footprint map, but first select the CONUS beam (in the pink area at the top of the page) as the one for Canada is not active, then click on the location of your dish, this will give you an estimated dish size needed for error free reception on 129W..

And any circular polarized LNB for a single satellite will work for this bird, but a single DP dual LNB would be the best choice.
Thanks for the info Terryl I am using a two single LNB dish one of the older ones that dik and bev used for 110-119 or 82-9. I am not that far north of Fort Frances and Duluth Min. so I should be in the footprint but will check.
Thanks again ! So I can point either the 110 lnb or 119 lnb long as I hit the sat.
According to the footprint I'm good to go thanks again Terryl

You will be able to get the 129 with an 18" from where you are,but a 20" would be be better:more rain-fade protection.

I almost live right under that bird (my due South satellite is 121W) and have to use a 39" dish just to keep it from fading out when it rains.
So I use a modified Dish 1000 (just the pan) with a DP twin LNB on it for 110W/119W and then the 39" with a DP dual on it for 129W, all this fed into a DPP44 switch, my 722K's love the extra signal strength.
