By Ryan Dunn: In a victory as impressive as any in Manny Pacquiao’s career, the Pride of the Philippines has won a unanimous decision after twelve rounds of some of the most one-sided boxing we’ve witnessed at the elite level in some time. Pacquiao won at least 11 of the rounds tonight decisively, against a fighter much stronger and bigger than he was.

In tonight’s fight, Pacquiao managed to turn a B+ top welterweight into a C- workman with nothing close to the pedigree of his Filipino opponent. The question of what is more important, speed or strength, was answered tonight in the same unquestionable fashion.

Pacquiao threw over 1,200 punches, an amazing feat for a welterweight. The high punch volume and low connect percentage (something around 20%) was to be expected against a rigid defensive fighter like Clottey, but if you watch some of Clottey’s more impressive fights (Judah, Corrales, Cotto, Margarito), he was able to pair that defense with strong counter punches. It’s true that Clottey DID manage to land a few strong shots, but not nearly enough to garner any respect from Pacquiao.

It’s also true that Manny never really hurt his opponent tonight, but the fact that he found a strategy to win so convincingly against a fighter who you can argue is still in prime shape, and hasn’t sustained much damage in his career whatsoever, is something worth noting. When it became clear that there was no penetrating the Great Wall of Ghana, Pacquiao made the correct decision to move in and out, and just unleash his hands regardless of what landed. Judges will score rounds based on activity, and Clottey never gave them anything to go on.

At the end of the day, it remains to be seen what it will take to unseat Pacquiao from his current pound-for-pound throne. There will be much speculation as to the right answer, but until a fighter can bring that game plan into the ring and execute it with any level of success in the welterweight division, it remains nothing more than an antagonist’s fantasy.

Manny Pacquiao is, without a doubt, the most exciting, most improved, most unbelievable talent in boxing today. It doesn’t take blind bias to agree to that. We will see what becomes of him as a politician, and who is left in the aftermath of May 1st. Perhaps Mosley or Mayweather have what it takes to steal the crown, but one thing we DO know, it was not (and will never be) Joshua Clottey.

Agreed.. Clottey was still strong punches didnt seem to phaze him...at all.. You can tell Manny was getting fustrated ... So if he is swiinging 100 punches on hitting 20... Clottey was trying to time Manny as well....even his trainer told him to take risk but he didnt that's his style... Clottey has good defensive technics only if he had Manny's offensive...technics ...he would of hurt Manny pretty bad if he was swinging a little more. I have respect for both of them...they showed very good sportsmanship...

It wasn't really a very good fight.

Playing D might be Clottey's style, but he was mismatched against a fighter as prolific as Pac at throwing rapid fire punches.

Think of matches where you have seen both fighters going toe-to-toe slugging it out, with the crowd cheering...That's entertainment, and it sure as hell was absent last night.

Clottey came not to fight but to not go down. He covered more than my blanket last night. Pacquiao did his job, threw an amazing number of punches and didn't let Clottey get a chance to setup.

Wasn't a good fight to watch, neither were the other 3 fights....but i only paid 5.95 to watch, so I can't complain!

Anyhow amigos, Pacquiao did his job, now let's see what happens in Mayweather vs Mosley.

:yeaah:

Imo, when this fight was finalized, I knew it would not be a good fight. Clottey has never looked good to me. He can take a punch, but shows no offensive whatsover. Put him and Bernard Hopkins(before Jermain Taylor fights) in the same ring, and spectators would probably fall asleep.

I would have rather saw Pac fight Marquez again.

Clottey moved more...as he displayed his dancing moves on his walk to the ring ...he moved more walking to the ring then he did in the ring...lol Here thought he was all fired up to fight... The media hyped the fight to be more then what was displayed on Clottey's part. To be a champion you have to fight and take risk like one. He had enough time to come back...I would of thought if my trainer told me in the 7th round that I lost every round...that would of motivated me to fight harder...I guess it's easier then then done.

I did noticed!...Clottey, fight like a coward, not prepared and he is scared to Pacman, always covering he's face at every round. He knew that once he put it down hes gloves he gonna sleep and the fight is over, it seems to me a boaring fight.:noidea::noidea::noidea:
