Juan Manuel Marquez, 41, is trying to fight off retirement by rehabbing his ailing right kneecap. Marquez hasn't fought since May 2014 but expects to return this in October/November if he can get that kneecap back into good condition, which he is hopeful will happen.

"The right kneecap isn't in the proper place and I'm in rehab to treat it," Marquez explained.

"My doctor advises me that surgery isn't necessary. It's a question of rehabilitation carefully and constantly following the program of exercises so the knee responds properly. I'm setting myself a time of one and a half to two months, but I'm confident that I'll be able to tell how I'm progressing as I do more and more sparring."

Marquez goes on to say that he still has the desire to fight and compete, and wants to win his fifth world championship. But as we saw with Sergio Martinez, what the body physically can do always trumps what the heart and mind want to do. If all goes well, Marquez says rematches with both Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley are possible after a tune-up fight, though I'd be surprised to see him fight Manny again - seeing as it would be impossible for him to top his last performance.

Márquez has been nothing but phenomenal as a boxer..One tough little dude...I honestly think he wont retire a fall down for the money..jmo...Pacquiao lost too him in 2012 by way of KO..Then Juan defeated Alvarado...Im not sure who Márquez wud consider..Assuming he will step in the ring again..Of his last 3 fights the only lose was Bradley by SD..Hopefully he (juan) makes the right decision..

Well its not the dough fer shur... the guy was an accountant by trade in Mexico City...
Hear he still has the first peso he ever earned.. guess its just the pride.
He was not one of my favorites, but he was and still is a great boxer.
Just hope he does not end up like Barrera at the end of his career.
