My son`s car is a 2007 Fusion and he says he`s hearing a "rubbing" noise when turning. Not a big surprise but the car only does it when the outside temp is hot say upwards of 80 degrees. I checked a bit...there`s no difference in the steering, no pull to one side or the other, no outer wear marks from visible rubbing etc, no difference if A/C is on or off, can`t feel anything different re steering column or wheel............
only happens when it`s real hot outside and no discernible difference in the car`s maneuvering or feeling.
Any ideas??
Btw....I forgot to mention....turning right or left doesn`t matter.

Is it possible he is hearing the tires on the hot pavement? Like maybe an alignment problem.

Possibly CV joints going bad, usually makes most noise when hard turning slowly.................

Nope....I haven`t had the time with him home to run out with the car but I`d think the dummy would know tires on hot pavement sound................on the other hand he is my kid.

Can`t tell till he gets home with it ....all he said is that it makes same noise whether turning right or left.

hmmm..rack and pinion?....hopefully the noof chimes in too bro..;)
It's the bearing
bearings make that sound when turning ,,, does not affect driving alignment or anything else
To check for sure ,, raise the car with a jack
with the wheel in the air, grab a hold of the tire , and jerk it left and right and then from top and bottom
if there is slack movement , you'll know for sure
99.9 % ,, from what your mentioning above ,,, its the wheel bearing ,,
usually $200 buck ,, give or take plus 1 hours install
Good luck with that bud

Hope not.....but I doubt it. These 2 mechanics are friends of mine and been doing family cars of ours for over 30 yrs. including my sis, parents and other friends. Screw me once and they`d lose about...
