I see in the footprint map that their is a KU foorprint for North America. Can one use a 18 inch dish from NYC and catch this satellite?

sorry friend but you,ll need a 30 inch dish or bigger and linear lnb for amazonas sat....

O.k. so If I use a 30.9 inch elliptical dish and a linear lnb would I be looking at the North American beam or I'm trying for the South American beam?

The transponders pointing at North America only have a few (if that) active channels, most of the transponders on this bird point to South America, you would need an 80 foot deep space radio telescope to get the South American beams in New York City.

All you will/would/maybe get when pointing to Amazonas 1, 2, 3 and 4 from most of North America would be maybe a "Howdy" screen, the further South you go the better your chances.

And you should use a round dish for a single LNB, if your going to play with the linear birds a 39" dish would be better, and adding a motor to it would let you look around, as there are quite a few other satellites up there.

A 39" dish with an Invacom QPH-031LNB on it, and a good motor would get almost every "Ku" band bird in your viewing angles. (Eastern horizon to Western horizon)

Thank you for that thorough explanation.

Nothing scans in for me on ku band on Amazonas with the exception of a few data transponders....about 8 channels on the c band side.

It must be all the other satellite dishes in your yard, they are sucking up all the RF, and you have nothing left to look at.

Thats why I went with the single dish on a motor, lots of unused RF just lying around the yard....Do you want me to send you some??
