News about Nelson's desire to delve into the pot business first surfaced in a report in The Daily Beast (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/03/26/willie-nelson-is-launching-his-own-brand-of-weed.html).
The Daily Beast reports that Nelson, 81, announced he will feature Willie’s Reserve, along with branded bongs in his new chain of stores. Nelson intends to get out ahead of big industry, the story reports.
Michael Bowman, a spokesman for Nelson, said the country sing would embrace “the anti-Walmart model.”
According to the report in The Beast, Bowman, says the initiative “was developed by his family, and their focus on environmental and social issues, and in particular this crazy war on drugs, and trying to be a bright light amongst this trail as we’re trying to extract ourselves from the goo of prohibition.”
Bowman told the news outlet that new stores can be expected in the next calendar year in states where “there’s a pretty clear path on where retail can go,” such as Colorado, Washington and Alaska.
