Hugh Jackman has had to google Australian slang.
The 46-year-old actor – who was born in Sydney, NSW – has spent the last 15 years in the US due to his demanding career, but now that he's able to use his native accent for the first time in years for his latest movie 'Chappie', he has admitted he's struggled to understand the phrases used in his home country.
Speaking on ABC's 'Good Morning America' today (03.05.15), he said: "I haven't played an Australian since the movie 'Australia' so when they sent me the script, I was reading through and was like 'Neill [Blomkamp], I have never heard of this before.'
"It was like, 'I'm mad as a frog in a sock.' I was like, 'I don't know if this is Australian and he [Blomkamp] said, 'Oh it is.' I found myself googling Australian slang. I've been gone too long."
Meanwhile, the hunky star has fond memories of his native country as it was in the land Down Under where he met his wife Deborra-Lee Furness on the set of the TV show 'Correlli.'
He explained: "I fell in love, I was absolutely mad about her and absolutely embarrassed about it because it was my first job, she was the leading lady."
He added: "Anyway it all turned out well 19 years later and better than ever. And she's watching right now, I love you baby."
The couple, who got married in 1996, have adopted children Oscar and Ava together following Deborra's two miscarriages.
