Small C-Band dish ?

I was just wondering there is such a thing as a small dish for c-band? I still have a old really old 8foot dish but I also have more tree's and less room for a BUD then I had back in the old days.

An 8' dish is sufficient size for c band but you will find some tp a bit glitchy, especially 8psk. Trees are another issue.

there are a number of minibud threads on the net, however, you will not find any stellar performance reports.
they work, just not good.

Now that's a dish. Seems to be plenty of interest in a big c band dish lately....I wonder why?

Can't say. years ago when I put my first one up I told the people next door it was made to shoot down ICBM's. they believed me. they weren't the smartest people.

there's so much FTA on c-band, 10 times more than ku. Annoying for those like me with no space for one.

If you like to experiment, there is an interesting pdf that I read awhile back on building log periodic antennas on printed circuit board for C and Ku band wide use. They don't offer much gain--only 7-8 dB and the beamwidth is 15 degrees or so, but if you stack a couple dozen of them you might build up enough gain and narrow the beam down to something that could work. You might need two sets to get both polarities of the signal, or manually flip the array on its side. Not saying it would be easy, but....

I tried some "Mini BUD" "C" band experiments on a 1 meter motorized "C" band setup.

After loosing a lot of hair, cussing out the cows too many times and getting a bad sunburn I gave up, I got a few channels on some of the stronger satellites (2) but the fade margins were not there, a large cloud or a big bug would wipe out the signals.

I would try it again if I can find a 6 footer setup to handle "C" and "kU" band signals, (I maybe can fit a 6 footer on the mast I have now) I still have the C/kU band LNB, but I might talk someone I know down the road out of the 10 footer in her back yard, all it's used for is shade for the goat pen, I may have to build her a real roof for the goats.

I was "fighting" to setup a 6' prime focus for about a year with one conclusion: there is no LNB available so far, to handle c and Ku band on the same dish no mater the size of the dish! One or the other has to be compromised.
So, till the technology will solve this problem, I will stay with my 1.2m motorized dish & bsc621 lnb on it, and scan from time to time whatever can be scanned.

6' dish will get you most of the c band tp but dvb-s2 though and a c/ku band lnbf will lead to lower signal strength on ku but great for c band.
